FC Barcelona have finally reached an official agreement with Ronald Araujo to extend his contract to 2026.
The current contract of Uruguayan was due to expire in the summer of 2023. But now he agreed to a contract extension with FC Barcelona after months and weeks of tireless negotiation.
These discussions intensified specifically after the most recent international break. And credible reports have it that Araujo’s agent was in constant talks with Mateu Alemany, Barcelona’s sporting director. Eventually, both parties have mutually agreed to a deal.

Ronald Araujo has been in fine form this season which has seen him not only score four La Liga goals, but also form a formidable partnership with Gerard Pique at the heart of Barcelona’s defence. The Uruguayan’s versatility has come in handy this campaign after featuring at right-back on some few occasions and excelling even out of position.
At only 23, Araujo is far from the finished article. Yet his impressive showing with Barcelona this season has seen a few top English clubs show interest in acquiring him. But Barça’s improved contract means Araujo will definitely wear the blue and red shirt for a few more years.
With Ronald Araujo signing a new deal and Andreas Christensen potentially joining in the summer, Gerard Pique and Eric Garcia together with the two aforesaid, will form the core of Barcelona’s centre-back pairing next season.
