André Cury’s recent statements have reignited media speculation about Neymar’s possible return to FC Barcelona. However, sources within the club confirm that the Brazilian star is not part of their current transfer strategy. At 33, Neymar’s profile does not align with Barcelona’s long-term vision, and his recent injury history raises concerns about his ability to perform at the highest level.
Cury: “Neymar Wants to Return”
Brazilian agent André Cury, who played a key role in Neymar’s original transfer to Barcelona in 2013, has fueled speculation by claiming that Neymar is eager to rejoin the club. Speaking to RAC1, Cury insisted that Neymar would welcome a return to the Blaugrana and pointed out that the player will be a free agent in July.
“Neymar never should have left Barcelona, and his return is a real possibility,” Cury stated. The Brazilian forward, who recently ended his contract with Saudi club Al Hilal, has rejoined Santos on a short-term deal. His goal is to regain form and potentially return to European football.
Barcelona’s Stance: Performance First, Then Talks
Despite Neymar’s apparent interest, Barcelona has made its position clear—any potential signing depends on his ability to regain top form. According to sources, the club has reportedly told Neymar, “Score 15 goals at Santos, then we’ll talk.”
Barcelona’s reluctance is understandable. Neymar’s recent stint at Al Hilal was plagued by injuries, limiting his playing time. However, his current run at Santos has been promising, with flashes of brilliance reminiscent of his prime years. He recently scored his first-ever Olympic goal and showcased his signature dribbling skills in a high-intensity match against Corinthians.
A World Cup Dream or a Barcelona Comeback?
Neymar’s future remains uncertain. While his father and agent have suggested he might stay at Santos beyond June, his entourage has also hinted at a possible Barcelona return. Some, including Brazilian legend Romário, believe Neymar should remain in Brazil for another season to prepare for the 2026 World Cup before making a final move abroad. Others argue that a return to elite European football, potentially with Barcelona, could be the perfect stage for his comeback.
No Negotiations—Yet
For now, Barcelona is not actively negotiating a possible return with Neymar’s camp. Sporting director Deco is not pushing for his signing, and financial constraints add another layer of complexity. While the club has improved its financial situation with the recent sale of Vitor Roque, Neymar’s potential salary demands could still pose a challenge under La Liga’s financial fair play rules.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Neymar’s performance in Brazil and his upcoming World Cup qualifiers will be closely monitored. Until then, his dream of wearing the Blaugrana colors again remains just that—a dream.
