Luís Maximiano’s football journey reads like a tale of determination and resilience. The Portuguese goalie, born on January 5, 1999, has carved a niche in the football world. Luís Maximiano is currently showcasing his talents at UD Almería in La Liga, on loan from Italy’s SS Lazio.
Maximiano’s football roots trace back to Sporting CP’s youth academy. He joined at 13, after starting his journey with S.C. Braga. His senior debut came in 2017, in a LigaPro match for Sporting’s reserves. Not long after, Maximiano began training with the first team, playing behind legends like Rui Patrício.
His commitment paid off on September 26, 2019, marking his first team debut in a Taça da Liga match. His UEFA Europa League debut wasn’t far behind, with a memorable 4-0 win against PSV Eindhoven. By December, he made his Primeira Liga debut, soon securing the first-choice spot over Renan Ribeiro.
However, the 2020 season brought new challenges. Antonio Adán’s arrival meant Maximiano had to step aside. Yet, his journey was far from over.
From Granada to Almeria
In 2021, Maximiano embraced a new chapter with Granada CF in Spain. His debut against Real Betis highlighted his skills despite a 2-1 defeat. That season, he became a standout, making the most saves in La Liga. Unfortunately, Granada’s relegation marked another twist in his journey.
Lazio was the next stop in 2022. Maximiano’s Serie A debut was dramatic, with an early red card. Yet, he bounced back, showcasing his skills in a Coppa Italia match against Bologna.
Maximiano’s international career also shines bright. He debuted for Portugal’s under-21 team in 2019, securing a draw against Slovenia.
