After a mid spring international break, Barca was back in action tonight to take on Osasuna at the Montjuic.
Both teams came into this match not wanting it to be played tonight, instead moved to another matchday that felt more feasible for both sides. However, the RFEF ignored the wishes from both sides and went ahead with tonight’s date.
Moving past that, Barca still had some work to do. They were tied with Real Madrid on points entering tonight’s match, but with a game in hand, which meant a three point gap would be opened if Barca took care of business.
So with that being said, let’s dive into this match
First half
The first half started quick for Barca, as they scored a nice goal inside of 12 minutes.
It was Alejandro Balde who began the action, as another one of his darting runs put Barca in a pretty nice position in the attack.
He then found himself pretty much alone on the left flank, before firing a low pass towards the Osasuna box/ The pass found Ferran Torres, who slid it into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Perfect start in all honesty.
There was some more action not even 10 minutes later, as it was Dani Olmo who won a penalty. His first penalty was saved, but there was an eventual redo after VAR determined the Osasuna keeper didn’t stay on his line.
Olmo’s next penalty was eventually put away, as the goal gave Barca a 2-0 lead and put them in a bit of an early cruising mode.
That obviously wasn’t the case, as Barca continued to pile on the pressure with chance after chance after chance. However, despite their efforts to extend the lead, the score line remained the same after Olmo’s goal from the spot.
2-0 at halftime and no apparent resistance from Osasuna, Barca looked primed to take another set of three points. But they still had a second half to play, in which no laziness could be shown.
Second half
However, there wasn’t much laziness, but the chance creation department was a bit lacking in terms of impact. Barca looked compelled to sit back and enjoy possession, therefore eliminating any significant turnovers and controlling the match as much as possible.
That didn’t stop them from being aggressive though, as they found a third goal in the 77th minute, as the substitute Robert Lewandowski found the back of the net for the 23rd time in La Liga this season.
It was a beautiful assist from Fermin Lopez and a pitch perfect header from Lewandowski, all combining to make a third goal for Barca that effectively sealed off the match.
Final word
Nice, easy win for this Barca after the international break. Now the real fun begins, as a hectic stretch of games now begins starting on Sunday against Girona.
How this team responds during this stretch could determine the ceiling of their season.
Barca’s next match
Barca’s next match will be on Sunday as they welcome Girona to the Montjuic.
See you all then!
I’ve been a big time Barca fan since I was 14 years old. I love the club, the history, and the tradition that the club has built over its prestigious history. Forca Barca!
