We’re through to the semis! An absolute rollercoaster of emotions ends in a 5-3 victory over Granada. It is difficult to fit in all that happened last night, but I’ll do my best.
The first half was quite strong, with us dominating and fully controlling the game. We created a decent amount of opportunities but we could not convert. It was the hosts that opened the scoring after a moment of chaos resulted in Kenedy’s goal. The start of the second half was far worse, as we couldn’t maintain the rhythm which saw Roberto Soldado double Granada’s lead.
From then on, we created all the opportunities in the world, hitting the post twice and being denied by the keeper many times. In the 88th minute Griezmann gave us hope as he miraculously squeezed his effort between the post and Aarón Escandell, and after hitting the post once more, Jordi Alba equalised.
We had already received our weekly dose of adrenaline in 90 minutes, yet extra time was just as mad. Griezmann put us in front with a hammer of a header, but the celebrations didn’t last too long. A silly challenge from Sergiño Dest gifted Granada the chance to bring the game back to level terms through a penalty which they happily turned into a goal. However, Frenkie was quick to score our fourth as he got first on the rebound to tap it in. We held on before Griezmann’s beautiful cross was smashed into the back of the net by Alba.
A chaotic game sees us progress through to the semis. This game perfectly described this Barça side: often structureless yet extremely unpredictable
