The future of Clement Lenglet has once again become the center of attention. Reports link the 28-year-old defender to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, notably reported by ‘The Athletic’. It’s worth recalling that MD had previously hinted at Barcelona negotiating Lenglet’s departure to this Middle Eastern side in early August, during the team’s American tour. As rumors swirl, the French center-back might be packing his bags for a potential move to the bustling Saudi Professional League.
The proposed deal seems to be gaining shape. Reportedly, Al-Nassr is prepared to pay Barcelona a fixed sum of €10 million plus an additional €5 million in variables to secure Lenglet’s services. However, while a preliminary agreement might be in the works between the two clubs, the final decision hinges on whether the 28-year-old defender is indeed open to leaving Barcelona for Saudi Arabia.
Crossroads for Lenglet:
Lenglet’s intentions were inclined towards continuing his career in Europe. Yet, the compelling financial incentives of the Saudi league can sway any player’s perspective, as demonstrated by the notable influx of renowned players into the competition. This paradigm shift in the landscape of football transfers raises questions about Lenglet’s impending decision.
Last season, Lenglet embarked on a loan spell with Tottenham, making 26 appearances in the Premier League. The center-back enjoyed significant playing time with the ‘Spurs’, showcasing his skills in the English top flight. However, Tottenham refrained from including a buy-back option for the French international in the terms of the loan agreement.
On Monday, FC Barcelona engaged in a training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gampe. The team convened after a goalless battle at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, an encounter fortunately free of injuries. But with a few players nursing minor knocks and attending the gym for precautionary measures due to the physical demands of the game.
Among the players absent from the training session was Clèment Lenglet, albeit for a different, more apparent reason. His absence underlines the anticipation surrounding a potential change of scenery. Therefore, he remains on the brink of a significant career decision.
