Clement Lenglet, the French International, will be returning to Barcelona. Last season, he had a successful loan spell in Tottenham. Now, Lenglet will join the first team on 10th July. Tottenham didn’t trigger the release clause of 20M Euros, according to Mundo Deportivo, but they might still sign him.
He has a mammoth contract until 2026, thanks to Lord Bartomeu, our ex-president. Lenglet doesn’t seem to generate much interest in the European Market apart from Tottenham Hotspur. Therefore, FC Barcelona are in a dilemma because the current Barcelona coach, Xavi doesn’t trust him either. He doesn’t consider the French International in his team. He even made it clear after the signing of Iñigo Martinez, the experienced Spanish International, so it’s less likely that he won’t have any place in the pekking order of the Centre Backs in FC Barcelona.
Although it can’t be denied that Tottenham are using the current financial situation of Barcelona to get a better deal for Lenglet as they are the only club interested in him. They want to buy him for less than 5M Euros. Now, it must be seen in the future how the deal advances since he occupies a very large space in the wagebill and is a thorne in Deco’s path. But Barcelona wants to get atleast 15M for him(fixed).
But the market is still open and it’s a long way to go. The Board of Directors, along with Alemany are trying their level best to get a better deal in the favour of the club. Negotiations are still ongoing with the English Club. As per recent updates, they are willing to give 10M(fixed)+5M(variables) for the French International.
