According to Jijantes FC, Nerea, the wife of Íñigo Martínez since 2017, is in Barcelona looking for a house to live in Barcelona next summer. The international defender will be free when his contract with Athletic ends on 30 June 2023 and hopes to move to Barca.
The Athletic defender and Barça already agreed the conditions for him to join at the end of the current season. But Barca will have the obstacle of FFP.
SPORT advanced weeks ago that FC Barcelona maintains its interest in the Athletic Club defender. The Blaugrana view him as a priority in the centre-back position for the next season.
Barça want to bring in a left-sided centre-back and Íñigo is the best fit. However, the club is closely monitoring the evolution of his plantar fasciitis injury. That injury kept Íñigo Martinez away from the pitch since last November.
The centre-back is well and Athletic will use him until the end of the season. Therefore his physical condition can be overseen. There is a lot of tranquillity surrounding this issue, although the centre-back would like to have his future defined more clearly.
On the other hand, the uncertainty of the Negreira case slowed down an operation that both parties were happy with. Although everything points to the fact that the agreement that has been brewing for several months will not be broken.
And proof of this could be today. The presence of his wife in Barcelona looking for a house for them to move into once his signing is official.
