Am I the only one to get serious 2021 flashbacks over the Leo Messi saga? It just feels like the same story all over again: Leo Messi wants to sign for Barcelona, and Barcelona wants him. Xavi wants to have Leo in his team. And it’s La Liga that are holding us back.
It looks like every side of this story looks to stay as “clean” as they can get, if things eventually won’t work.
Us fans can only bite our fingers and try to keep calm. And it’s not easy at all.
The good news
On the bright side, it looks like all parties want to (at least look like they want to) find a solution. Naturally, that should be the case. Leo Messi will sign as a free transfer with sane salary. La Liga will get a huge boost of sponsors from having the GOAT again. And Barcelona will get the player that should have never left.
Once again, we know that Leo Messi’s absolute priority is to sign for FC Barcelona. Hopefully, things will materialize on time and we will find a solution soon.
The Bad News
Just like in 2021, the club has to rely on La Liga to approve the operation. Same La Liga that went to court to prevent Gavi, a homegrown player, to be registered to the first team.
In 2021 Barcelona also thought that they had the green light to sign the new contract. But everything blew up eventually. Who’s to say it won’t happen again?
Bottom line
I still think that it’s the best interest of all parties to find a solution. However, Leo Messi is getting anxious, naturally. And this could end badly.
At this point, we should stay optimistic and hope for the best. However, meanwhile we should also expect the worse. Leo Messi might make a comeback this summer. But he might also not.
