In a natural, yet surprising turn of events, both main media channels in Barcelona published pretty much the same info: Leo Messi still doesn’t have an offer on the table, and he wants to take his decision now.
It’s obvious that this message comes from the people close to Leo Messi. They target both La Liga and FC Barcelona – sort the issues, and do it now.
Considering the events of summer 2021, why would Leo wait for much longer? He can’t really trust about La Liga, because they are the main reason he left in the first place.
How did we get here?
If Leo Messi will indeed return to Barcelona, the way to his return can be a script for a movie. Back in October, people in the club were pretty optimistic about Messi’s possible return. In September, Leo and the club finally connected for the first time since his sad departure back in August 2021.
The strategy was clear : To sell the 49% of the BLM section of the club, use it as the ‘Economic Lever‘ for 2023, and use this money to invest in signings, like Leo Messi.
But then came La Liga, and decided that clubs can only use ‘Palancas’ once. And that plan pretty much died at that point. That’s why back in the last weeks of 2022, we heard about the verbal agreement between Leo Messi and PSG.
However, many clubs voiced their concern to La Liga about how they can’t really buy players. Most La Liga teams signed the CVC deal, and that removed a huge part of their revenue. And we saw that in the last transfer windows. Spanish league is broke.
Javier Tebas is a politician, and he knows that there are elections coming for La Liga president in 2024. That’s why he came up with the alternative: Clubs that won’t have a FFP margin will have to present a ‘viability plan’ that will explain how they will grow their revenue in 2 years.
Barcelona presented their plan weeks ago, but there’s still no green light from La Liga.
Messi’s return will benefit La Liga
One would think that La Liga, as a broke league, will just on the opportunity to bring the best footballer of all times back. And there is a lobby in La Liga offices that push for doing whatever it takes to bring him back. They know how much money the league will get from bringing Leo Messi back.
But, curiously, the league is yet to give their final verdict.
You would assume that the fact that Busquets and Alba are leaving with their huge salaries – would make things easier for the club. But both FC Barcelona and Leo Messi are still waiting for La Liga to get the green light.
But Leo won’t wait forever…He shouldn’t.
