Sergiño Dest’s name has done the rounds this summer with regards to a possible move away from Barcelona. However, as things stand, save any late twists, his future remains at Camp Nou. The United States international is one of the options coach Xavi Hernandez wants at right-back along with Cesar Azpilicueta.
The Chelsea president, Todd Boehly, was in Barcelona on Thursday to meet with Joan Laporta at Via Veneto, where they spoke about various players. One of them was Dest. The Premier League side would be interested in including him in one of the operations the clubs are working on, such as Marcos Alonso and César Azpilicueta, who play similar positions.
However, the former Ajax player has other plans and, above all, the intention to stay at Barça. Xavi, meanwhile, also understands the need for two specialists in each position. Dest is young and can keep improving. With all this considered, save a dramatic change, Sergiño will remain a Barcelona player next season.
