Barcelona faced off against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the champions league today, with Manchester City(or Lyon) awaiting the winner for the semifinal match. Barcelona’s starting XI consisted of the following: Ter Stegen, Alba, Lenglet, Pique, Semedo, Busquets, Roberto, Vidal, De Jong, Suarez and Messi.
No positives came out of the first half for the blaugrana. It was Bayern who controlled the match from the start, scoring an early goal. However, it was canceled out by an own goal minutes later. Barcelona was unlucky and did not take advantage of theirs chances and Bayern capitalized. Bayern lead 4-1 at half.
Barcelona needed to make desperate changes at half and bring on the youth. But instead, Setien brought on Greizmann. The entire night was full of mistakes. Not one Barcelona player showed up to play and as a result Bayern ripped the Barcelona backline to shreds. The match ended 8-2.
This was a huge wake up call for Barcelona. Their aging team could not stand a chance against this energized Bayern team. This was easily the worst display the Barcelona team put in all season. Utterly embarrassing. Barcelona will have to make plenty of changes these next coming weeks and prepare for the next season.
