Barca returned from the dreaded international break to face off against Sevilla, with La Liga play continuing.
Barca needed to stay in front of Madrid on the table, but also put in a good showing ahead of their monstrous week of important fixtures.
So, how did Barca fare against one of La Liga’s most recognizable sides? Let’s find out.
First half
The first half went about as smoothly as you’d like for Barca.
There were plenty of goals from Barca, good defensive play too, it was a seemingly perfect start to the match for the Catalan side.
The action started with a Robert Lewandowski goal via penalty, with the penalty being won by none other than Raphinha. Lewandowski’s eventual penalty was crystal clear, as he sent the keeper the wrong way and found the back of the net, giving him another goal in La Liga and another leg up in the early Pichichi race.
Pedri got the next goal, which was an otherworldly effort. He got the ball at the edge of the box and fired a rocket that Sevilla’s keeper couldn’t fully handle. The ball went into the back of the net, giving Barca a 2-0 lead early in the first half.
The action didn’t end there either, as Lewandowski got another goal in the first half, giving him a first half Barca after a first half hat trick last time out against Alaves.
Truly a poacher’s goal, with a cheeky deflection guiding in Raphinha’s long range effort.
Barca led 3-0 and took that lead into halftime. Plenty of positives to go around for Barca, with many more hopefully coming in the second half.
So let’s see how Barca fared in the second half, as they attempted to secure another 3 points.
Second half
The second half was a bit more subdued with Barca scoring only 2 goals.
These goals came later in the second half when the win looked pretty much guaranteed, but no one is going to get mad at more goals. The substitute Pablo Torre scored both of those goals, with each of them being a little wonky in nature.
The first was a heavily deflected shot that somehow found its way into the back of the net.
The second was a looping free kick that surprised Sevilla’s keeper. The ball harmlessly drifted into the back of the net, giving Torre a late brace and Barca 5 goals to the tally.
Just another day in the office for Torre, with two goals off the bench in the wackiest of possible ways.
Barca eventually cruised to a 5-1 win, giving them a 3 point lead atop La Liga again, and a much needed tune up before their big fixtures this week.
Final word
Good little warm up for Barca ahead of their fixtures against Bayern and Real Madrid.
Lewandowski got in on the action, Pedri as well, along with Pablo Torre. Also, really good to see Gavi returning from his significant knee injury from a year ago. The entire stadium chanted his name, which really tugged at the heartstrings for Barca fans.
Barca’s next match
Barca’s next match is a big one, with it being on Wednesday against Bayern in the Champions League. It’s their 3rd match of the league phase and it would be pretty nice if they were to come away with 3 points.
See you all then!
I’ve been a big time Barca fan since I was 14 years old. I love the club, the history, and the tradition that the club has built over its prestigious history. Forca Barca!
