Not long left of the season now, before we turn our attentions to a huge summer for the club, its the last few games of the season. And tonight is not going to be an easy one. Not only is it the battle for second place, but its also the Catalan Derby. Live from Motilivi at 9pm local time, its Barca VS Girona. In what is a key clash in the battle for second place. Of course for Barca, we would’ve liked to. Of still been in the title race by now but unfortunately that isn’t the case. As for Girona, this is just an added bonus on what has been an incredible season. It’s not going to be a straightforward game, so lets jump straight into it.
A Quick Look at our opponents:
There really isn’t much to be said about Girona. They have Had quite simple, an outstanding season in La Liga not only guaranteeing European football, but have also pretty much guaranteed Champions League football for next season. For a club that was only promoted back to the first division a couple seasons ago back, to be one of the standout teams in the league and to comfortably finish in the top 4 is a stunning achievement. And all credit has to go to Michel and his team. But for us, none of that matters, Girona is going to be a very difficult game. They’re amongst the top scorers in the league and has the current pichichi leading the line in Dobvyk. We have the reigning Pichichi of course in the form of Lewandowski who is fresh off a hat trick against Valencia on Monday night. As a whole, morale is high for both teams. Both coming into the game with confidence and a point to prove, which means its not going to be an easy game for us at all. Especially away from home.
Predicted lineup:
As for us, were pretty much full strength going into this game. Apart from the usual absentees of Gavi and Balde. We are almost at full strength. Unfortunately though, Frenkie came off with another ankle injury in the recent Clásico which is a big blow to the midfield. Apart from that, there’s plenty to choose from. In defence i think things will remain the same as it was against Valencia. Although maybe, Iñigo may come in to give rest to Cubarsi. Christensen will slot back into the pivot role with Gundogan alongside him. I guess the only question really is if Pedri starts or Fermin. Of course if Pedri is fit and ready, then its a no brainer. But Fermin had a really impressive performance against Valencia, scoring again, and has earned another chance this weekend. Whoever Xavi decides to go with out of those two gems, i think wed be happy. Roque is sadly missing from the squad due to a fever, so up front it will most likely be the trusted trident of Raphinha, Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal.
My Lineup:
Ter Stegen
Kounde- Araujo- Cubarsi- Canceló
Pedri- Chistensen- Gundogan
Yamal- Lewandowski- Raphinha
