There’s nothing left for Barca to play for, except 2nd place in La Liga, which guarantees a spot in next season’s Spanish Super Cup.
To do that, they’d first have to beat Girona away, which based on their previous encounter, wasn’t going to be easy. But football is a wonderful sport that provides so many possibilities.
So anything can happen.
Let’s see how Barca performed.
First half
The first half was a bit of a rollercoaster.
Barca did find the first goal of the match, courtesy of an unlikely name. It was Andreas Christensen who scored, but he did so by firing an outrageous shot from outside Girona’s penalty area.
This was a bit of an unexpected shot from Christensen. Just not a goal you’d expect from someone like him. But he delivered and gave Barca a 1-0 lead.
It was short lived though, as Girona equalized very quickly after the goal, knotting the match at 1-1 and giving watchers an early treat.
There wasn’t much action after this though, as both teams tried to maintain control — with Barca winning that battle for the most part — and carefully find their ways of attack going forward.
Well, Barca did indeed score another goal, courtesy of a penalty scored by Robert Lewandowski and won by Lamine Yamal.
Other than that though, not much action.
With that, we went into halftime with a favorable 2-1 score. Barca needed to get their attack going if they wanted to find more success in the second half and potentially an important win.
Could they do so?
Second half
The second half was…disastrous….again.
Girona scored 3 goals in the second half, all conceded due to back breaking individual mistakes.
Portu scored twice, Gutiérrez scored as well, giving Girona a 4-2 final tally.
There isn’t much to say here because watching this unfold was downright embarrassing. Let’s just get to the final word.
Final word
I mean, i just don’t know what to say anymore.
How many more mistakes will we see? How many more individuals will we see embarrass themselves and the club on the pitch. Will these mistakes even have consequences?
I have so many questions right now, but not nearly as many answers.
I’m just annoyed, really annoyed.
Barca’s next match
Barca’s next match will be next Monday when they welcome Real Sociedad to the Montjuic.
See you all then!
I’ve been a big time Barca fan since I was 14 years old. I love the club, the history, and the tradition that the club has built over its prestigious history. Forca Barca!
