A quick one today as we jump into the final stretch of the season. Tonight, live from 9pm local time at the Montjuic, it’s Barca vs Real Sociedad. Another tough game on the schedule for Barca and although there isn’t really much to play for anymore, it’s still a good opportunity for the team to boost their confidence and end this up and down season in the best way possible. So let’s jump straight into it!
A Quick Look at our opponents:
Imanol’s Real Sociedad are a great team. A perfectly balanced team with a lot of quality, especially in midfield and in the attack. Names like Zubimendi and Take Kubo jump out straight away as game changers for the basque side. One of the two, Zubimendi, won’t be available for the game tonight through injury. But players like Mikel Merino in that midfield can still give us a test with their quality. They’ve had a pretty up and down season too and maybe are also finishing the season short of what they expected to do, similar to us all at Barca. At one point Sociedad were looking like they were comfortably fighting for the champions league. However a string of poor form took that dream away from them. Still regardless, they’re a great team and will provide another tough test for this Barca side.
Sociedad have racked up a total of 48 goals scored so far this season and have also conceded 35 goals. In fact, their defensive record is better than ours. With 4e goals conceded on our side. We have a superior goal scoring record by almost double, but that is something you’d expect. What this shows is that Sociedad aren’t only a team that is comfortable in defence but they also carry a goal threat as well. A test for Barca.
Predicted lineup:
When it comes to the predicted lineup for the game, I think Xavi will go strong. It would be nice to see some changes such as Roque coming in, but I doubt that’s going to happen unfortunately. So hopefully we’ll see him in the second half sometime. I’d expect Pedri to get back into the starting lineup. We’ve been cautious with him which is a good thing but I can see him getting the nod to start tonight. The only question really is what the formation is? Will we go with 4 midfielders like we did against Girona, which to be honest, worked really well up until the point where we started shooting ourselves in the foot again. Fermin had a brilliant performance so he’d deserve to start tonight. Christensen is looking better and better in that pivot position and the duo of Yamal and Raphinha on either wing always looks dangerous so I’d imagine that would remain the same. Although I would be looking to give rest to yamal and cubarsi more often now considering the season is nearing an end. Whatever the lineup is, let’s just hope we can begin ending the season on a good note. That’s all that matters ahead of a huge summer.
My starting lineup:
Ter stegen
Kounde- Araújo- Cubarsi- Canceló
Fermín- Christensen- Pedri
Yamal- Lewandowski- Raphinha
