Just under a week ago from our last league game, we’re back in action. This time, on a Friday, live from Montjuic, its Barca Vs Mallorca. It’s yet another important game, like every game will be until the end of the season. So lets jump straight into it.
A Quick Look at our opponent:
When it comes to our opponent for tonight’s game. Mallorca. They, themselves are having a really impressive season so far. Especially for their standards and expectations. Just recently they’ve qualified for the Copa Del Rey final against Athletic Club, after beating Real Sociedad on penalties in the last round.
Their coach, Aguirre, is heavily experienced in La Liga. And within football in general. He sets his teams up very well, especially defensively. They’re usually difficult to break down. And they also have attacking talent upfront that can cause you damage too. So we need to be at our best, yet again. It’s not going to be a straightforward game, despite the fact its at home, i think all of us can admit the temporary home stadium for this season doesn’t give the same vibes as our beloved Camp Nou.
Nevertheless, well be needing the fans support tonight to help get us through ahead of a big weekend of football. Mallorca currently find themselves 15th in the table, 3 points above safety. But I don’t think that’s a fair outlook of how they’ve been this season. Scoring a total of 24 goals and letting in just 10 more. In fact, they have the same defensive record as Barca.
Predicted lineup:
During our last game against Athletic Club, the curse of San Mamés happened again. We were heavily weakened and will remain so after both Frenkie De Jong and Pedri picked up injuries in the first half.
It now means we are limited with options in midfield especially, which makes Xavi’s job even more difficult when trying to build up some consistency. He’ll be looking at trying to find the right formula to compensate for those two huge losses. One way could be by using Raphinha in a more inverted winger type role. Almost acting as a midfielder, although not playing there on paper.
We still have to be careful with other players too. Making sure they’re kept fit and also keeping the team competitive. One player who may see some rest for the game is kounde. He’s played every single minute since the new year, and has been a great outlet at right back. Proving that he is a quality option to have at fullback. A;though he might not like playing there, he’s very good at that role. But he may be rotated tomorrow, which means Hector Fort could see a start. That would be exciting to see, but then I wouldn’t be surprised to see Roberto play instead. It’ll also be nice to see Roque and Guiu getting some game time too off the bench. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see how Xavi decides to lineup.
My starting 11:
Ter Stegen
Fort- Araujo- Iñigo-Canceló
Gundogan- Christensen- Romeu
Raphinha- Lewandowski- Fermin
