Another game, another match day and this time its in La Liga. Live from Montjuic, its Barcelona against Las Palmas. Strangely for us however, its the early afternoon fixture this Saturday, with kick off coming at 2:00pm local time. Not only this, but its our first home game since our beautiful club turned 125 years old. So getting back on the right foot, during such a great occasion is exactly what the team will be looking for later this afternoon.
Again, its one of those tricky La Liga games where although the opponent isn’t very high in the table, its still a team that you can’t afford to underestimate or take lightly, especially with our high risk, high reward style of football. It’s going to be tricky to navigate, but we’re going to be relying on the home support to pull us through. So with that all being said, lets jump straight into the preview!
A Quick Look at the opponent:
Like I’ve briefly mentioned already above, Las Palmas aren’t exactly a high flyer in the league this season. They’re floating above the relegation zone, and have really struggled to match their efforts of last season. Of course that has a lot to do with the fact that their coach, Garcia Pimienta, made the move to Sevilla in the summer. And he was a key part of the performances last year for the canary side.
That being said, they still will put up a fight and cause problems for Barca. They have great technical players in their squad. No less than Alberto Moliero. A young player who looks a lot like our own cañarían superstar, Pedri, and has been linked with Barça on so many occasions. He will definitely be key for them later this afternoon, as well as the rest of the team too. Let’s have a look at how we could possibly line up!
Predicted lineup:
When it comes to the lineup for this afternoon’s game, once again, I think there will be a few changes from the side that started against Brest. A huge piece of news though coming into the game is the return of Lamine Yamal and also Ferran Torres too. Dani Olmo is a doubt to start which is a real shame, and unfortunately Casado is suspended. So could it be the time to see a double pivot of Pedri and Gavi? It feels like its almost inevitable and a really exciting partnership. I for one, would love to see it. And hope we can this afternoon. It’s either that, or Frenkie De Jong will come in to replace Casado, hopefully with a more dominant performance than he has done in recent games.
Although Yamal is expected to get the green light, I don think he’ll start the game. So for me, instead of playing Fermin on the wing, id play him as the number 10. He had a great game against Brest and is always a goal threat. His runs are always so well timed and intelligent. And I’d play Pau Victor on the left, just ahead of Alejandro Balde who should replace Martin.
My starting 11:
Peña
Kounde- Cubarsi- Iñigo- Balde
Pedri- Gavi
Raphinha- Fermin- Victor
Lewandowski
