The French defender put in a remarkable performance and saved a goal in which Real Madrid hit the post twice. Barça kept their first clean sheet of the season. Last season they had good defensive and clean sheet numbers, after conceding 5 goals in the first friendly against Arsenal. The azulgranas beat the merengue side and did not concede any goals for the first time.
Real Madrid had many chances to score, hit the post 5 times and Vinicius missed a penalty, the Cules managed to resist the attacks of the white team. One of the reasons was the great game of Jules Koundé in the center of the defense, in addition to the great performance of Ter Stegen.
In all the classic games Koundé has played as a blaugrana, his position has always been as a central defender. When Ronald Araujo was put in his position to stop Vinicius, the former Sevilla player always played his games in that central position, a position that he has said on many occasions is where he feels most comfortable.
Jules paired up with Christensen at the beginning of the match and then with the injury of the Dane, with Eric Garcia. He showed a great level of concentration during the match and left a more than remarkable performance and statistics.
The Frenchman was the only player in the azulgrana field who played all 90 minutes: 44/50 (88%) in passes, six shot blocks, one interception, one tackle, won two duels on the ground and one air duel. All this made him one of the most remarkable players of the match. A very serious performance from the Welshman, one of his best individual games.
Kounde to the rescue
The best action of the match was when he saved the ball on the goal line after a play full of rebounded shots. The first shot was from the Brazilian who hit the crossbar, then Bellingham hit the post with a header and finally Carvajal shot into an empty net. The Frenchman was the first to keep his eye on goal, after Vini’s shot.
This intervention made Koundé go into a euphoric moment when he saved a goal on the line. Perhaps because he knows that this season he will be at his best, although he will still be on the right back, as there is no one who can cover that position at the moment, there is no pure right back that works since the departure of Dani Alves.
