An imminent breakthrough awaits Marcelo Brozovic. The persistent pursuit by the Al Nassr delegation seems destined to bear fruit, According to Gianluigi Longari. Despite the midfielder’s initial hesitation, the Saudi club has remained in Croatia and fulfilled all of the Inter midfielder’s demands. With Barcelona unable to respond immediately with a proposal, it appears that the Brozovic saga is nearing its conclusion.
Oriol Romeu – The Alternate to Brozovic?
While awaiting Marcelo Brozovic’s final decision, Barcelona has already made a move for Oriol Romeu (31 years old). It looks like the midfielder is the alternative to the Croatian. Brozovic remains the priority, but the former La Masia product is the Plan B. Barcelona sended a message to Romeu’s current club and the player himself, confirming their interest. If Barcelona is unwilling to pay the €10 million release clause for Romeu, they could even negotiate with Girona to potentially lower the operation’s cost by involving an interesting player for Girona. The possibility of the deal eventually reaching around €5 million cannot be ruled out. Girona would provide facilitations if Romeu expressed a desire to join Barcelona, the only destination he considers to leave his current team. His willingness to return to the Blaugrana entity is naturally unwavering after spending 12 seasons away.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona already initiated contact for the signing of Oriol Romeu amidst the uncertainty, with plenty of time remaining in the transfer market to see what unfolds with Marcelo Brozovic.
If the ‘low-cost’ option for the central midfielder is activated, with Oriol Romeu replacing Brozovic due to an inability to structure an acceptable offer for Inter, a direct rival in the Champions League, Barcelona would have more financial flexibility to reinforce other positions, such as the right-back, where there is a clear gap. Ivan Fresneda, a defender from Real Valladolid, has caught their eye for that role.
Oriol Romeu has been a key player for Girona this season, featuring in 33 La Liga matches and scoring two goals. His potential addition to Barcelona would help fill the void left by Sergio Busquets. We shall see if Ulldecona’s own fulfills his desire to don the Blaugrana jersey once again.
