Barça stay with fifteen players in the World Cup. The club that sent the most players to the tournament in Qatar has lost two of them in 24 hours. On Wednesday it was the Danish central defender Andreas Christensen who said goodbye to the great competition. Now the German goalkeeper Marc André ter Stegen becomes the next one to go back home. Despite the victory of the German team against the Costa Rica (4-2), the surprising defeat of the Spanish team against the Japanese (1-2) left the Germans with no option of passing.
Unlike Christensen, who was at least able to play the full three games with the Danish national team, Ter Stegen left Qatar without playing a single minute, since Manuel Neuer, at 36, continues to be the undisputed starter in the German team. The World Cup experience was not good for Ter Stegen already before it began. He could not reach Qatar with the rest of the German sqyad due to a gastrointestinal infection that delayed his incorporation.

The Culés international carnage could have been much worse this Thursday night because, entering the second half of Spain-Japan, ‘la roja’ was momentarily out of the round of 16 of the World Cup because Costa Rica came to be beating Germany 2-1, a result that, combined with Japan’s victory, classified the Americans and the Asians and put the two Europeans off out. Barça contributes eight footballers to the Spanish team, which will play the round of 16 against Morocco next Tuesday (4:00 p.m.).
