A new documentary on FC Barcelona will be available on Prime Video in December. It will cover Lionel Messi’s exit from the club, the hiring of Xavi Hernandez and the signing of Robert Lewandowski.
The five-part series will start with the 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich. Afterwards, it will cover until this past summer, which is a period of two years in the Catalan club’s history.
Barça confirmed the news on Thursday with the following statement:
“FC Barcelona and Prime Video present ‘FC Barcelona, a new era’. This documentary will reveal the ins and outs of the last two years of the Club. As seen from the perspective of the first team. Along these lines, the docuseries produced by Barça Studios covers the process of rebuilding the workforce and the economic and institutional regeneration of the organization. An intrastory that begins when Barça experienced one of the most painful results in the club’s history. We’re talking about the 2-8 loss in Lisbon against Bayern de Munich in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The series will end with the 2022/23 preseason and the signing of new players, led by Robert Lewandowski.
“Produced by Barça Studios, the ‘FC Barcelona, a new era’ docuseries consists five 30-minute episodes and will premiere worldwide in December exclusively on Prime Video”.
“On August 14, 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, it certified the end of an extraordinary cycle, which began in 2004. It was a turning point for the Club that, months later, would culminate in the presidential elections and the election of Joan Laporta. The current Board of Directors opted for a new football executive structure. Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff arrived to lead the project. And , finally, Xavi Hernández took over as the coach”.
“The docuseries includes moments seen from within such as Quique Setién leaving, the departure of Luis Suárez, Leo Messi’s distancing from Josep María Bartomeu’s board of directors, the Argentine’s last season at the Club, the entry of President Laporta’s new Board, Messi’s emotional goodbye, the end of the Ronald Koeman’s tenure and how the signing of Xavi as the new coach of Barça was closed”.
“As the documentary series shows, the arrival of Xavi was crucial in the recovery of the team in the League and in the process of remodeling the squad, from the emergence of the youngsters and the energy provided by the reinforcements in the winter market of January 2022 with the arrival of Aumabeyang, Ferran Torres, Dani Alves and Adama brought in. The series ends with the new injection of illusion that the reinforcements of the team arouse in Barcelona with Lewandowski, Kounde, Christensen, Kessie, Marcos Alonso, Bellerin and Pablo Torre, in addition to the continuity of Ousmane Dembélé, a personal commitment from Xavi.”
