Negotiations involving both Chelsea and Barcelona may not be quite done just yet. Although César Azpilicueta signed a two-year Chelsea contract, the move of Marcos Alonso appears to still be on.
In fact, it seems to be inching towards an actual conclusion. Moreover, Fabrizio Romano claimed the deal is now “really close”. Both sides are just waiting for the green light from Thomas Tuchel. Others like Gerard Romero maintaining that Alonso remains the top target at full back. Therefore, presumably, as soon as Barça makes sure they can do it financially, they can get it done. One would imagine that any transfer fee Chelsea might charge would not be too big anyway, despite their general annoyance with the Blaugrana.
On Chelsea’s end, the impending arrival of Marc Cucurella should finish paving the way for Alonso’s exit (see also: Emerson Palmieri), bringing to a close a highly successful, trophy- and goals-filled six years for Marcos Alonso at Stamford Bridge.

The 31 years old Left Back will sign his contract in the coming days. He will be Jordi Alba’s backup. Xavi sees him as a player who can actually threaten Alba’s place in the squad, and that would make both of them better.
Alejandro Balde is a long term solution for this position. But at 18 years old, Xavi would like him to be the third option on that position. That would allow him to grow some more before making it to the first team.
