Barcelona finally made official the news that Jules Kounde will be signing for the club. The French defender arrived in the Catalan capital on Thursday after negotiations between Barcelona and Sevilla concluded.
According to the rumors, the deal is for €50 million plus €10 million more in variables. Koundé will take his medical on Friday and sign the contracts. Kounde waited for Barcelona until the last moment, like Raphinha did, and the player’s desire to come to Barcelona was key to the deal.
Kounde will sign a contract until 2027, with a release clause of 1B euros. It looks like the club finally signed the Center Back that Xavi wanted. Although the negotiations were not easy, the club focused on Kounde as the main candidate. Although it was possible to bring someone like Koulibaly, who’s a great defender, Xavi wanted only Kounde. And eventually, the club signs the young Center Back that should form a very good long term defence with Ronald Araujo.
The Frenchman rejected Chelsea‘s offer and eventually, Sevilla gave into Barcelona‘s bids with the Catalans agreeing to pay the main fee upfront rather than in instalments.
Finally the Koundé saga comes to an end, and coach Xavi has the defender he wanted to form a key part of his back line. The reconstruction of the team is going swimmingly.
It’s already an amazing summer, as Xavi gets pretty much all the players he wanted. However, there’s still a whole month in the transfer window. In that time, the club will have to find teams for the unwanted players. Meanwhile, Barcelona will have to register the new signings for the new season. However, even Javier Tebas said yesterday that the club is on the right track.
