Why Barça must sign Jules Kounde now – Opinion

It’s easy to say “we should get [insert any player name] player at all cost.” Especially after such transfer window we have. However, we should get Jules Kounde. I definitely understand it might sound financially irresponsible. However, in fact, it’s quite opposite.

After 2022 summer transfer window, the market for CBs will be very drought and difficult. The Athletic described the current summer transfer window as such. Rüdiger, De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Koulibaly, Cheistensen (our own), Botman, also Schlotterbeck, probably Kimpempe and many more got their new contract.

Only Gvardiol and a few left behind. Therefore, clubs will have limited options in the market, which they might be not good enough.

Spend big now, or spend bigger later

If Barça won’t get Koundé now, they risk having to spend enourmously to get a defender who recently settled in well-established clubs. Barça can’t know whether will they want to come or not.

Long story short, if Barça miss the opportunity to sign a center-back now, they will have to spend more later. And it will be more difficult due to contract issues.

Will Barça be able to sign Koundé? Time will tell. But it’s fair to say that after the signing kf Robert Lewandowski,  the focus now is on him.
