FC Barcelona and Sevilla have reached the basis of an agreement for the transfer of Jules Kounde.
After Barcelona‘s options to sign the defender grew greatly on Thursday, directors didn’t want the operation to go on forever and presented an offer to Sevilla which they could not refuse.
Barça will pay €50 million fixed plus another €10 million in variables for the French defender who was the number one objective to reinforce the defence.
Xavi can be content that he will get his man. The coach recognised after the Clasico that the club wanted to reinforce in each position still. Xavi has been key in the club’s achievement in signing the player. It was him who asked Kounde to have patience and bide his time while Barcelona made the bid.
He also explained to Kounde that he’ll be an essential figure in the team. Xavi’s discourse convinced the defender, who rejected Chelsea’s proposal. Sport learned today that the Blaugrana have reached a deal with a Kounde for four seasons and hope to close the transfer this week.
With the understanding with Sevilla now, that is a distinct possibility. Barcelona would like to close it as soon as possible because Thomas Tuchel wants to get back from the United States and get Chelsea to try and raise their offer to try and block a possible Barça move.
