It’s tough to imagine, but the presidential elections are not too far away. A long wait that has felt like an eternity should be over by the 7th of March and there’s definitely a lot of excitement around the whole thing. The next FCB president will be around until 2026, yet his reign will determine the future of the club.
Joan Laporta, Victor Font and Toni Freixa; ‘Estimem el Barça’, ‘Si al Futur’ and ‘Fidels al Barça’. Three completely different projects, each with its specifications, yet all with a common goal, which is to guide Barça to glory and to repair what now seems irreparable. The damage that has been done during the past decade under Bartomeu, Rossell & Co. will make anyone’s job as hard as it gets.
Moving on to the general impact of the soon-to-be elected FCB president. Those five years will decide where the club is heading: innovation or stagnation. The former is obviously what we need – and also something that practically rules out Freixa as a genuine candidate – , so the decision is of huge importance. Stagnation, on the other hand, would gradually lead us to deterioration.
Either way, there’s a big big day coming up for all cules. We want to remain the dominant force that we’ve been in the 21st century. Therefore, the decision should be absolutely spot on. If it’s not, then we’ll have to bear with our favourite club getting destroyed for at least another 5 years.
