After many twists and turns, the De Jong saga finally ended, with the Dutchman signing for Barca. De Jong will be the 20th Dutch Barca player, and his transfer announced precisely 30 years after Barca signed Ronald Koeman. Therefore, if De Jong will grow to be as good as Koeman, we’re going to really enjoy it. The move for De Jong might be an obvious one for Barca. He can play at all the midfield positions, CAM and even as CB. However, as an Ajax player, the guy has Barca DNA all around him. It’s safe to say that his adaption to Barca’s style of play should be fast.
In terms of our board, its fair to say that they did great job in achieving his transfer. Although PSG were already thinking it’s all over, and De Jong would move to Paris. But in a dramatic turn of events, our board met with De Jong and his agent, and changed his mind.
De Jong – The core of future Barca
The club saw the De Jong saga as a strategic negotiation. Our core midfielders are in their 30’s, and our technical staff wants to make the squad younger. De Jong is 21 years old, and the club view him as a player for more than a decade. He should be one of the core midfielders in the future team of coach Xavi.
In his interviews, De Jong always said that his dream is to play for Barca, and with Messi. Few months ago, the Dutchman said he has to hurry up in order to fulfill his dream. Now he will be able to play with him. The young midfielder signed a contract for 5 years. In addition, it is already announced that he will have a release clause of 400 Million Euros.
