Bad news has arrived for Víctor Barberá and Barça Atlètic. The 20-year-old forward underwent surgery on Tuesday at the Hospital de Barcelona to repair a rupture in the rectus femoris of his right leg. The operation was performed by club doctors Jordi Puigdellívol and Marc Aguilar and lasted around an hour. The estimated recovery time is five months, which means Barberá will not return to the pitch until the end of March.
The injury is a major setback for both the player and Juliano Belletti’s team. Barberá had started the season in outstanding form, scoring six goals and providing two assists in just seven appearances. He had become the main reference in attack, especially after the injury of Òscar Gistau, who is also sidelined until early 2025.
A season that had started full of promise
This campaign was supposed to be a new beginning for Barberá. After a complicated return to Barcelona last season, where he struggled with a series of muscular injuries and limited playing time, he had finally rediscovered his confidence and rhythm. His connection with Sama Nomoko was one of the highlights of the early matches, and his hat-trick against Reus FC Reddis had underlined that the old Víctor Barberá was back.
Now, this new injury arrives at the worst possible time, halting his momentum just when he had become a key figure in Belletti’s plans. His absence will force the coaching staff to readjust the attack and look for new solutions to maintain the team’s scoring ability.
Belletti’s new challenge without a true number nine
Without Barberá and Gistau, Barça Atlètic have been left without a natural striker. Belletti has already begun to experiment with alternatives. In the most recent match against Poblense, he placed Óscar Ureña as the center forward, despite the Dominican international usually playing as a winger. The gamble paid off. Ureña scored both goals in a 2–2 draw, rescuing a vital point for the team, which had been reduced to ten men after just ten minutes.
The coach is also considering other options such as Shane Kluivert and Juan Hernández for the attacking role. However, there is no doubt that the loss of Barberá, who had become the team’s main goal threat, will be difficult to compensate for. His presence, experience, and instinct in front of goal are irreplaceable qualities in such a young squad.
A player who knows how to come back stronger
Despite the disappointment, those who know Barberá are confident he will handle this setback with maturity. The striker has already overcome several physical challenges in recent years and has always shown determination to return stronger. His positive mindset and professionalism have been praised by both teammates and staff.
At just 20 years old, Barberá has plenty of time ahead to continue growing and to return to the level he had reached before the injury. The club believes in his talent and will support him through every stage of his recovery.
Looking ahead with hope
Barberá’s journey has never been easy, but his resilience is what makes him special. He had just started to smile again on the pitch, enjoying his football and leading the attack with confidence. Now, a long recovery lies ahead, but everyone in the Barça Atlètic camp is convinced he will come back ready to make a difference once more.
If everything goes as planned, his return in late March could arrive just in time to help the team in the decisive stretch of the season. His goals, once again, could be key to lifting Barça Atlètic when they need it most.
