Just when it seemed calm had returned to Barcelona, a new conflict has erupted between FC Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Lamine Yamal, the teenage prodigy and one of world football’s brightest prospects, has been withdrawn from Spain’s squad for the upcoming matches against Georgia and Turkey. The decision came alongside a strongly worded statement from the RFEF, expressing “surprise and discomfort” over a medical procedure performed on the player without prior communication with the national team’s medical staff.
RFEF Statement: Discontent and Surprise
The Federation issued an official release stating that on Monday, November 10, at 1:47 p.m., it learned that Lamine Yamal had undergone an “invasive radiofrequency procedure” to treat a pubic injury. The issue, according to the RFEF, was that the Spanish medical team had not been informed in advance.
The Federation added that it only received a detailed report at 10:40 p.m. that same night, which recommended seven to ten days of rest. Given the circumstances, and “always prioritizing the player’s health and safety,” Spain decided to release Yamal from the squad.
Barça Responds and Defends Its Actions
The Catalan club quickly replied. Sources within FC Barcelona insist that the entire process was coordinated, transparent, and carried out solely with the player’s health in mind. According to Barça’s version, Yamal remains under the constant supervision of the club’s medical staff, who have maintained ongoing communication with the Federation.
Barça also clarified that the procedure was performed following an examination by Belgian surgeon Ernest Schilders, a world-renowned specialist in pubalgia, who approved the radiofrequency treatment as the next step toward full recovery.
Lamine Yamal Back in Barcelona
The young winger has left Spain’s training camp in Las Rozas and flew by private jet with his family back to Barcelona, where he will continue his recovery at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. His early return has reignited tension between the club and the Federation, a relationship already marked by previous disputes.
Sources close to Barça maintain that the RFEF was informed immediately and that the only priority throughout this process has been to protect the player’s long-term health.
A New Episode in the Barça-RFEF Relationship
This controversy comes at a sensitive time for FC Barcelona, which has already faced several disagreements with the Federation over the management of its international players. Lamine Yamal’s withdrawal not only raises questions about medical coordination but also highlights the ongoing lack of harmony between the two institutions.
Meanwhile, the young star will follow a personalized rest and rehabilitation program designed to ensure a full and lasting recovery before rejoining the team.
Health Above All
Despite the noise surrounding the issue, both Barça and the RFEF agree on one thing: Lamine Yamal’s health comes first. At just 17 years old, the forward is a vital asset for both Hansi Flick and the Spanish national team, and his recovery must be handled with maximum care.
What’s clear is that this episode once again exposes the fragile relationship between club and Federation, reminding everyone that communication is just as essential as talent when protecting a generational talent like Lamine Yamal.
