Julián Álvarez continues to be one of the most closely followed names inside Barcelona’s sporting department. He is not just another option on the shortlist. Internally, he is seen as one of the most exciting profiles to strengthen the attack and help shape the next phase of the project.
The club believe he has everything they are looking for in a modern forward. Mobility, pressing, finishing ability and intelligence in combination play make him an especially attractive target for a team that want more energy and variety in the final third.
But there is one major obstacle standing directly in the way.
Atlético Madrid do not want to sell
The biggest problem for Barcelona is clear. Atlético Madrid have no intention of making Julián Álvarez’s exit easy. Inside the Madrid club, he is viewed as a key piece for the present and future, which makes any potential negotiation immediately complicated.

If he remains fully committed to Atlético, Barcelona’s chances are minimal. In that scenario, the deal would become almost impossible, no matter how much the Catalan club like him. But if, at some point, the striker becomes open to a new challenge, the landscape could shift.
That is why Barça are staying alert. They are not in control of the situation, but they are watching closely for any sign that circumstances might change.
Barcelona still see him as a priority target

There are too many barriers for this to be seen as an easy transfer. Yet despite all of that, the idea has not disappeared from the club’s thinking.
