After a big win against Dortmund during the week, Barca was back in action against Leganes.
This felt like a walk in, walk out with a win sort of deal. But with the way Barca has been struggling against La Liga opposition lately, a win felt far from a guarantee. Either way, Barca is the more talented team, so this should’ve been a win.
Let’s see how Barca fared.
First half
The first half was frustrating.
Simply frustrating.
Barca went down early due to Eric Garcia’s blunder on an early Leganes corner, which led to a riveting header to put Leganes in front 1-0. Of course this wasn’t the best start, but it was far from the most frustrating period of the match.
Because after this, Barca began a full on assault on Leganes.
Chance after chance was created, Barca were into the game and looked ready to pounce on Leganes. But surprisingly there was a lack of clinical end priduct, a lack of sharpness in the attack, which led to all of these chances falling by the wayside and poofing into thin air.
It was annoying because this team was creating chances, good chances even. But none of them were leading to goals, not a single one.
As a result, Barca went into halftime down a goal, but with clear optimism regarding their ability to equalize and potentially take the lead. They just needed to finish off these chances, and if they did, they’d be flying.
Onto the second half.
Second half
The second half was unfortunately more of the same.
Barca created chances, but they couldn’t finish them off and give the crowd something to cheer for. They weren’t half chances either, they were clear cut point blank chances that were simply being wasted.
As for why these chances weren’t falling? Honestly, I couldn’t give you an answer.
Maybe the squad just had an off night, maybe too many mistakes were made. Nonetheless, Barca walked themselves into a hole and in the end couldn’t waltz their way out of it.
Barca ended up losing 0-1, dropping more points and making this La Liga title race even more congested.
Final word
This couldn’t have gone worse for Barca.
They were clearly the better team, clearly the more talented team, but it just didn’t click no matter what they tried. You can chalk this up as a bad night, maybe a horrible night considering the knock Lamine Yamal suffered and the potential time off he’ll have to take.
All in all, just a bad bad night.
Barca’s next match
Barca’s next match is suddenly mega important, as they’ll welcome Atletico Madrid to Barcelona next Saturday. Both are tied on points now, which’ll make this December match one of the most important on Barca’s calendar so far.
See you all then!
I’ve been a big time Barca fan since I was 14 years old. I love the club, the history, and the tradition that the club has built over its prestigious history. Forca Barca!
