The international break is over and with that comes the return of Barca.
La Liga so graciously gifted them an away fixture at Celta to be their first match after returning from break, which in the grand scheme of things isn’t all that great. But it’s Barca, they certainly have the better players, morale, and form right now.
So let’s see if Barca could reverse their last result and get a good one against Celta.
First half
Things started out well for Barca.
They got on the board early with a goal courtesy of Raphinha. The Brazilian found a ball glued to his left foot, he then cut inside, and fired a powerful shot past Celta’s keeper and into the back of the net.
After that though there wasn’t a lot of threat from Barca’s end. Sure they had bouts of possession, but they weren’t creating the chances we’ve come to expect.
Maybe that’s due to the absence of Lamine Yamal, which is understandable given Yamal is already one of the more dynamic players in world football. But still, there has to be more urgency and sharpness in the attack while Yamal is out, or else form will suffer mightily.
Barca went into halftime up 1-0 and looking for another goal to effectively seal this match away. Would they get it? Yes, but that wasn’t the only thing that occurred in the second half.
Second half
Robert Lewandowski gave Barca a 2-0 lead in the second half, as he took a few deflections and stroked the ball into the back of the net. It was a rather clumsy goal and a lucky one at the same time, but it counted all the same as it hushed the crowd and gave Barca the room they needed to put this match to bed.
Or so we thought.
Marc Casado got sent off late in the match due to yellow card accumulation and as a result Barca completely crumbled.
And when I say crumbled, I mean crumbled.
They blew their lead within a span of 2 minutes, going from a 2-0 lead to level at 2-2. It was complete chaos and Barca couldn’t do much to stop the mess that spilling all over their laps. They tried to collect a late win with some last minute momentum, but in the end they couldn’t do so and fumbled away 3 points.
Shame, shame, shame.
Final word
What occurred today was nothing short of shameful.
Barca had the match won, they had their 3 points in the bag, and they had a chance to temporarily extend their lead atop the league table. But alas, Barca have only added one point from today’s match and look to see their lead lessened even more barring a positive result for Madrid against Leganes.
I understand this was the first match after the break, but what they did was unacceptable and they know it was.
Barca’s next match
No time for much rest either, as Barca’s next match will come on Tuesday as they take on Champions League surprises Stade Brestois on Tuesday.
See you all then!
I’ve been a big time Barca fan since I was 14 years old. I love the club, the history, and the tradition that the club has built over its prestigious history. Forca Barca!
