After a brilliant away trip to Belgrade in midweek to face Red Star, it’s back to La Liga action for Barca with another tricky to navigate away game. Tonight from 9pm local time, we travel away to San Sebastián to face Real Sociedad. Again, it’s not going to be a straightforward game, but ahead of yet another boring international break, we’ll be looking to head into it with some momentum. So let’s jump, straight into the review.
A Quick Look at our opponents:
As covered previously, tonight’s opponent is Real Sociedad is never an easy task, especially away from home. The atmosphere is always intense, always hostile. They’ve got a great coach in Imanol and over the years, over his time there, he’s built a brilliant side. Hugely competitive in La Liga with a mix of youth talent and talent from abroad as well. Of course the obvious names include the likes of Take Kubo, Zubimendi and Oyazabal, but they’ve got a lot of depth in the squad too. In the league this season however, they’ve been quite inconsistent, sitting comfortably mid table. However, what’s unlike them for this season is the fact that they haven’t scored many goals. They haven’t conceded many, but they haven’t scored a lot either. Scoring and conceding the same amount of goals, which is 10. Compared to us in the other hand we’ve conceded more, only the one more, but we’ve scored four times more than Sociedad. Read into that what you will. So although Real Sociedad aren’t the team of the last few years, they’re still going to prove a test to this Barca side.
Predicted lineup:
As we come to look at the lineup we could expect to see tonight, there’s definitely a few questions that need to be answered. The most obvious one is will Cubarsi start. He came off in midweek due to a nasty cut on his face, and there are doubts if he will start tonight. Although it’s possible he could start with a mask. Dani Olmo, reportedly, is suffering from illness so he’s also a doubt to make the squad. Will Pedri play in the number 10 role again, or will he be pushed back to partner Casado with someone like Ansu or Pablo Torre coming into replace him? We’ll have to wait and see.
My starting 11:
Peña
Kounde- Cubarsi- Iñigo- Balde
Casado- Pedri
Raphinha- Ansu- Pau Víctor
Lewandowski
