FC Barcelona has identified the right-back position as a key area to strengthen for the upcoming season. Since Deco’s arrival as the future sporting director of the Blaugrana, signing a young player for this role has become a top priority. The club aims to secure a promising talent and potentially pursue a loan deal for Cancelo. Two potential options under consideration are Geertruida from Feyenoord and Freseneda from Real Valladolid, both young prospects.
According to David Bernabeu, the approach for Geertruida began a few weeks ago. He was recommended directly by Jordi Cruyff. The player is valued at €18 million in the market, but Barcelona is willing to negotiate a deal starting at €10 million plus an additional €5 million in variables. Feyenoord is aware of other proposals for the talented Dutch footballer and is waiting to see how the situation unfolds. The Blaugrana have shown interest in Geertruida with the player’s entourage giving their approval.
Geertruida has already earned international caps for the Netherlands, and Barcelona has closely monitored his performances throughout the season. Cruyff holds excellent reports on the player, and Deco has given his endorsement. However, the club has also explored the possibility of Fresneda, who delayed his move to Borussia Dortmund upon learning of Barcelona’s interest. One of these two players is highly likely to join as a promising right-back for the future.
Cancelo?
Deco’s plan also involves considering Cancelo’s arrival on loan, should such an opportunity arise. Talks were held with agent Jorge Mendes during this week’s summit. Barcelona is in a favorable position for the right-back. However, the main obstacle is Manchester City’s desire to secure a permanent sale for the Portuguese international. And they have received permanent offers from other clubs. Arsenal has already initiated contact to negotiate the transfer, although it won’t be an easy task given Pep Guardiola’s side’s high demands.
