With the Spanish national team out of the U-20 World Cup because Santi Denia’s U-19 team, with Barcelona’s Pablo Torre as the star, did not qualify for the European Championship that awarded the spots, three Barcelona players will participate in the tournament to be held in Argentina from May 20 to June 11. In addition to the already announced Roman Vega, a 19-year-old left-back from the reserve team who will represent Argentina, two other youngsters will also be there.
One of them is Niko Takahashi. The 17-year-old Japanese left-back player from the Juvenil B team is also eligible to play for Argentina, his father’s country. But Japan is currently ahead thanks to the confidence of their coach Koichi Togashi.
Derek Cuevas, a 19-year-old Dominican winger from the Juvenil A team, will also take part in the tournament.
Two players that didn’t eventually get the call are Lucas ‘Pocho’ Román and Juanda Fuentes. Both players play for Barça Atletic. The latter did participate in the South American Championship.
