Monaco’s Vanderson – long-term bet for Barça’s right-back position?
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatApp

Signing Vanderson de Oliveira would be a bet on the future, on a player that could mark an era. It would not a short-term signing or a stop-gap. The Monaco right-back, 21, is ready to explode at the top level, where he could play for many years.

In Brazil, he is in the shortlist for a national team call. And that’s why a bunch of Premier League clubs already knock on his door.

If Barcelona have the financial muscle next summer and decide to invest big on a right-back, Vanderson is, without doubt, one of the names they would consider.

🔄 (VANDERSON): Barcelona like Vanderson's (RB) profile a lot, especially his offensive characteristics. They tried to sign him in the summer but Monaco asked for €60m. This will be his last season at Monaco. PL clubs are also interested.#FCB 🇧🇷

FACTOR DANI ALVES

The possible signing of Vanderson would draw parallels with Dani Alves’ arrival in 2008 for €35 million from Sevilla. He went on to become the best right-back in Barça’s history.

However, clubs like Manchester United and Newcastle United are also pushing. Therefore, entering the bidding would require Vanderson’s desire to move to Camp Nou. He would have to follow in the steps of Raphinha, who turned down bigger offers in England because he only had eyes for Barça.

Like all Monaco players, there is no release clause. His deal is up in 2027.

Vanderson is an attacking right-back of impressive size. He is 1.80m, fast, strong and has huge potential. He joined Monaco from Gremio in his homeland.

The Brazilian is completely adapted to football in France, despite struggling with the rhythm at first, and has the confidence of his coach.

Last summer Monaco stopped him from leaving when Barça’s Mateu Alemany asked for a price and Man Utd showed interest.

We will have to wait and see what will happen this summer. Will Barça have enough FFP margin to make a big investment? Will Monaco be willing to negotiate?

One thing is sure: If Barça will eventually look for an attacking-minded fullback, Vanderson is very high on the list.
