Ferran Torres was one of the great protagonists of the win against Costa Rica (7-0) in the debut of the Qatar World Cup. Ferran scored a brace, leading the attack of the Spanish team. Moreover, he showed that he must be an important piece for the national team in search of the second World Cup title.
With his 2 goals against ‘Los Ticos’, Ferran Torres is placed as World Cup top scorer. He’s equalized with Giroud, Saka, Valencia and Taremi. In addition, the Valencian became the third Spanish player to score a brace on his World Cup debut (Opta). The other 2 players to do that were José Iraragorri against Brazil in 1934, and David Villa, against Ukraine in 2006.

Following in the footsteps of his idol and as reported by Pedro Martín, from Cadena COPE, Ferran Torres also matched the goalscoring records of David Villa in his beginnings with Spain. The forward of Barca scored 15 goals in 32 games with La Roja. This is the same number that Villa had in the same number of caps. Eventually, Villa ended his career as Spain’s all-time top scorer with 59 goals in 98 games. We’ll see if Ferran Torres can maintain his scoring pace to continue contributing his grain of sand to a team that dreams of winning the World Cup.
