After establishing his personal league unbeaten record in 534 minutes against Mallorca (0-1), ter Stegen faced a litmus test against Celta. This is a team that he is not good against, and especially vs Iago Aspas. Until this Sunday, only four wins in eleven matches against Celta, with four draws and three losses. Furthermore, Mats conceded nine goals from the Galician striker, who always comes out against the German and against Barça.
Tonight, the Barça goalkeeper was successful, with meritorious interventions in a 1-0 victory. This match allowed him to extend his record to 624 minutes. Furthermore, Stegen received treatment on his lower back, playing with pain in the second half.
So far this season, Ter Stegen only conceded one goal in eight matches (1-4 against Real in Isak’s second play in the 6th minute). He chained six games with a clean sheet: Valladolid (4-0), Sevilla (0-3), Cádiz (0-4), Elche (3-0), Mallorca (0-1) and Celta (1-0), to which must be added the opening 0-0 against Rayo.
The holder of Barça’s league record is still the Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. Today Bravo is at Betis still in great shape at 39 years old. He went 755 minutes without conceding goals at the start of the 2014-15 season, between matchday 8 and minute 35 of matchday 9, when Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty in the 3-1 Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu.
