Another day, and another loss to Bayern Munich. This time Xavi’s players went into the field already knowing that Inter did the job vs Plzen, Naturally, it was very hard for the players to be at their best.
But it was also a sign that this team is not in the elite level of Europe. Not even close.
It’s time to pick up the pieces, fight for the domestic titles, and maybe for the Europa League.
The last time FC Barcelona failed to qualify for the UCL group stages two years in a row was in 1997/8- 1998/9. These were the first two season of Xavi as a player. This time it is the first two seasons of Xavi as the coach.
Time to go out there and prepare the team for the many challenges that we’re facing this season.
Meanwhile, it’s important to start preparing the squad for next season. A lot of players on the market, many of them on a free transfer. Got to exploit this market and build a team that could actually compete in the Elite level of European football.
A good word for the fans that cheered the players during the game, and also after the final whistle. They are another reason for the players to lift their heads and win the next matches.
We can blame the referees, and we can blame the FIFA virus for losing so many players. But eventually it’s down to the fact that we’re too fragile mentally. Having so many young talents is very exciting. But it seems like the more veteran players are too fragile. And so, when the team concedes, no one from the more experienced players is there to overturn things.
This has to change.
