What a year this was for Pablo Martín Páez Gavira, AKA Gavi. The youngsters took the chances that Koeman gave him last season with two hands and had a magnificent season. However, this season Xavi gave Gavi the keys to the midfield, alogside KOPA winner of last year – Pedri.
This evening I think most of us Barcelona fans feel bad after the loss yesterday in El Clasico. But personally, after the game vs Inter I didn’t set my expectations too high before the game. Therefore, it felt bad for me to lose in El Clasico, but it shouldn’t be a game to kill our spirit. Personally, the game vs Inter hurt much more.
In the league, we still have a lot to play for. Gavi winning the KOPA tonight should remind us that we are only in the beginning of the Xavi cycle. Meanwhile, other teams will still have to rejuvinate their squad. We already did that.
The ideal scenario was to bring good players to make the transition smoother. But sadly, the mismanagement of the club made our team very young. Maybe too young.
For example – Xavi arrived to the first team when he was 18 years old. But he had Pep, Luis Enrique and others in front of him. It took him few years until he became a starter. Same goes for Iniesta, who had to play as a CDM and as a winger because he had Deco sitting in his spot.
Pedri and Gavi are here to make history
It took Xavi and Iniesta until their mid 20’s to become the ‘XAVINIESTA’ that we all know and love. It took 7 years for Puyol to win his first trophy with the club.
Gavi and Pedri can and will achieve trophies a lot sooner. I’m sure of that.
The Barcelona squad has many young players. And players should still arrive for Xavi and the technical staff. Moreover, Xavi himself is a young coach. However, this team has something to prove now. And Gavi is the symbol of the spirit and the mentality that we all love to see in our team.
Just look at other teams and how they like to annoy this 18 years old GEM. When so many opponents hate you, I guess you’re doing something right.
