Balde’s explosion during pre-season caught the staff of FC Barcelona by surprise. After 2 seasons full on injuries, it seemed like Alex Balde would still need to grow in order to be ready. But it looks like Balde is now stronger and fitter. Meanwhile, Barcelona signed Marcos Alonso, and now there are 3 left backs in the squad.
It easy to see that Barca promised Alonso to do everything to bring him. Therefore they felt like the have a moral deby for him. Otherwise, they might have been contempt without him, given the impressive displays of Balde so far.
Marcos Alonso from his end has shown exquisite behaviour with the club so far. The contract is short but due, among other things, to financial fair play.
In the summer the left wing will be reorganised. Now there is a lot of competition and performances will decide who starts.
For Marcos Alonso this season would be a test to prove that he can become an important player for Xavi.
For Alejandro Balde, this season is crucial in order to prove that he’s ready. His fitness and form would help the club to decide if they would go for a new LB next season.
There are some interesting names like Gaya and Grimaldo that finish their contract next summer. But the club might be happy with Balde as the leading LB in the squad.
But there’s also an option that Balde will lose his place to the 2 left backs with more experience. In that case, a loan out might be an option in the winter.
