Once a Culé, always a Culé. Last night Dani Alves returned to his home for over eight years with Pumas in the Joan Gamper trophy. And the club used this opportunity to say goodbye.
He came out to warm up and the Camp Nou stood up and cheered. Alves jumped on Ter Steen’s back and signed big hearts in the air for the fans at Camp Nou.
Over the speakers they announced Alves would get a homage. A video of his best moments at Barcelona and a voice saying: “Thank you for all you gave us during these years. Receive this applause from those who will always be your fans.
Alves could not contain his emotions and cried, hugging his old team-mates. He even hugged the new signings and president Joan Laporta. He received a framed shirt with 431 on the back from captain Sergio Busquets. This number represens the games he played for the club. The Camp nou will always be his home.
At the end, Dani Alves was tossed into the air several times by his former team-mates.
Years after his first goodbye from the club, Dani said goodbye again to the club he loves. But this time, he had the chance to leave with his chin up and have the stadium call his name. It was the perfect closure for a legendary player.
