Birthday boy Lewandowski dedicates first Barça goals to late father

Robert Lewandowski had a big smile on his face as he spoke to the media after scoring his first goals for Barcelona in Sunday’s 4-1 win at Real Sociedad. Lewandowski, turned 34 on Sunday, dedicated the goals to his father, who passed away in 2005. The Polish striker said he was happy to score his first Barça goals “to dedicate them to my dad, who is up there.”

The ex-Bayern Munich man praised “the hard work of the entire team and the desire we had to win after (drawing) the first game of the season.”

He added: “It’s just a question of time until we understand each other better and I think we are getting there. It’s a great team with young players and others who have more experience and we try to give advice.”

Meanwhile, Ousmane Dembele, who was also on target. He said: “I prefer to play on the right than the left,” even though his goal came from the left side.

The French winger had kind words to say about birthday boy Lewandowski: “it’s much better to have him alongside me” he said.
