Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is set of a loan move to Tottenham and could complete his switch early next week. Catalunya Radio are reporting he’s been given permission to travel to London and complete a temporary move to the Premier League side.
The two clubs already agreed a loan deal, with a purchase option. Therefore, the announcement of the deal could be on Tuesday, according to Diario Sport.
Tottenham are set to pay a large part of Lenglet’s wages. This will be a big boost to Barcelona and their efforts to trim the wage bill. Although there’s a hint the Frenchman may also take a pay cut.
Lenglet chose Tottenham after chatting with Spurs’ coach Antonio Conte. He told the center-back he will be a key player for the club next season.
Tottenham are making waves in the transfer window this summer. The north Londoners announced the signing of Richarlison in a £60 million deal on Friday.
The Brazilian is the club’s fourth signing of the summer and joins Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster in making the move to Spurs.
Clement Lenglet signed for FC Barcelona From Sevilla in the summer of 2018 for 36m Euros. His first year was good, and he quickly became starter, taking advantage of Umtiti’s injuries. However, somewhere in the 2019-20 season, it all started to go wrong for him. After the 8-2 humiliation vs Bayern, he became a shadow of himself, making stupid mistakes that cost Barcelona many points.
It’s fair to say that a seperation would do well for both Barcelona and Clement Lenglet. Hopefully, at Tottenham Lenglet will have a fresh start where he could regain his good form. With the World Cup only months away, he would like to get the call.
