The news of Ousmane Dembele’s contract extension has been all over the media in recent months. The Frenchman refused to renew his contract and demanded an exorbitantly high salary. The club was ”sick” of him and his agent for making it tough for Barça to extend his contract. Dembelé requested a five-year contract for roughly €200 million gross, plus €20 million in agent commissions and €20 million in player commissions. He did not, however, renew under Barça’s terms.
However, he is performing well under Xavi Hernandez, he is less injury-prone, and is putting up world-class performances in each game. He scored a goal and had two assists in Barça’s 4-0 win over Athletic Club, and he also had two assists against Real Madrid. He has 2 goals and 7 assists in his previous 13 games, and according to @whoscored, he has an average match rating of 7.03, indicating that he is a vital player for Xavi Hernadez.
According to sources, Dembele has been linked with PSG. Therefore, if he does not renew his contract with Barça, he’s likely to join the Parisians.
A change of tune?
Dembele’s future with Barcelona seemed to be in jeopardy. That until vice-president Rafa Yuste spoke on the possibility of the Frenchman remaining at Camp Nou. He said, “Xavi tells us he’s an outstanding player, and he offers a lot to the team. I believe Xavi is also doing a fantastic job on a psychological level by assisting Dembélé in better understanding the system.”
“Xavi is a role model for the players.” If Dembélé feels more at ease in the coming months, which I believe he will, I don’t rule out the prospect of us meeting with his representatives again and Ousmane staying with us.” He added. –– Cadena SER
Agents for Ousmane Dembélé told @sport that if Barça calls, they are eager to begin negotiations for a new contract. Moreover, they want to forget about what happened in January. “If Barça calls, we’ll go!” they declare.
Dembele is making roughly 250,000 euros per week in the final year of his contract. That’s totaling around 13 million euros for the season.
Dembele is a player that contributes significantly to the squad; His speed, dribbling skill, long-range shot, and ability to play with both feet easily make him unique. Therefore his contract extension will be a great benefit to Barcelona.
