Here’s how the Barcelona players did in the loss vs Real Madrid in the Super Copa. Some did very well and some didn’t play so good.
Ter Stegen: 6.5/10 Despite not being able to prevent 3 goals, Ter Stegen has really stepped up in 2022. As he saved 5 shots during the match. A good performance from The German keeper, let’s hope his confidence stays high and continues producing good saves while also improving.
Alves: 4/10 Despite his wonderful performance last match against Granada, Alves showed his age and was absolutely getting outclassed by Madrid’s Left flank consisting of Vinicius and Mendy.
Araujo: 6.5/10 Positioning and some dodgy decision making probably costed Ronald from a good performance. He displayed his usual passion and aggression, and produced 7 recoveries. Decent performance, and helped concede less.
Pique: 6/10 Not a bad performance but like Alves age showed, and his physical decline is and as always was present. He can’t keep up in tracking back due to the high defensive line Barca play.
Alba: 7/10 Was good in creating chances, as he played in a marvellous ball which assisted Fati’s goal which saw them equalise, not bad of a performance if I’m being honest but not the best.
Midfield
Frenkie De Jong: 3/10 An extremely poor performance from De Jong, bought for a high fee 3 years ago and manages to put up a useless performance, that had no impact on the match whatsoever. Just lacked enthusiasm, and had no real creative spark which saw the ball go advanced, and his positioning was just purely poor.
Busquets: 5/10 Obviously at fault for the first goal but gradually was settling in. A mediocre performance
Gavi: 6/10 Was a quiet night for Gavi, but he wasn’t exactly poor. He had a decent outing in midfield but didn’t do much that was eye catching.
Attack
Ferran: 3/10 Will be fair to him as it is his debut and hasn’t played football for quiet a while, but he was non existent in attack.
Luuk De Jong: 7.5/10 In 2022 Luuk De Jong has been crazy, he has made me eat up my words which I used to criticise him from last year. Obviously he wasn’t magical or anything, but he did what was told and was brilliant. Scoring a Clasico goal to equalise 1-1, and was a threat in attack towards the Madrid back line in the air. Good performance.
Dembele: 8.5/10 Last couple of games, Dembele has been brilliant, and this, especially in a Clasico, Dembele ran the show for Barca. He completed 7 dribbles out of 7 attempts, his two footed ability helped him trick opponents, his creativity was immense, with 5 key passes, but let’s not forget he could improve on a few decisions he makes.
Substitutes
- Pedri: 8/10 Wow, after a long time without football. Pedri was simple but effective. Game changer and midfield gem.
- Abde: 4/10 He was just trying to overdo things, when he could just opt for something more simple.
- Ansu Fati: 7.5/10 A constant threat in Barca’s attack, Fati leveled the game and sent it to extra time before eventually losing. A very important player for Barcelona when fit.
- Depay: 4/10 Ruined the flow of the attack when he got placed on the pitch. Clearly not suitable to Xavi’s game plan
- Nico Gonzalez: 5.5/10 Wasn’t too bad, but considering his season and how he performs, this wasn’t a Nico Gonzalez-esque performance.
- Jutgla: N/A
