FC Barcelona have sold Emerson for a reported fee of €30m to Tottenham Hotspur. The news came on Sunday, August 29th that there were talks of a swap deal including Serge Aurier. The saga however progressed into a decent enough transfer fee for Barcelona to agree. This is of course due to the financial crisis of the club. The news gained prominence thanks to transfer ninja Fabrizio Romano that Barcelona and Spurs have agreed on a fee, But personal terms between the club and the player are yet to be sorted out.
Emerson Royal just arrived a few weeks ago as a Barcelona player after his loan spell at Real Betis for a fee of €9 million. The Brazil international signed a five-year contract with Barca when he moved to Spain from Atletico Mineiro in 2019, but spent the last two-and-a-half years at Betis. It should be noted that Los Verdes Blancos own 20% fee amount of any future sale of the player as per the agreement. Emerson played in all three league games so far, starting against Getafe. The player was just starting to adapt to life in blaugrana colors, but a move is imminent.
Given that the transfer window this summer has been absolutely crazy, this move does not come as a surprise. Barcelona have two players in Sergiño Dest and Oscar Mingueza to fill in for the right-back position. The money could finance signing a striker. Brathwaite is the new name to join the massive injury list as of Sunday. 36-year-old Milan forward Mario Mandžukić has been reportedly offered to Barcelona.
Closing the Transfer Window
The other name for a full-back that has popped up is Hector Bellerin from Arsenal. The player is open to a move, but the operation seems complicated as Spanish media reports. There was also a report saying the Catalans wanted Raheem Sterling on loan. But it could not happen since Cristiano went to United instead of Man City.
The deadline day is today, and departures like Illaix Moriba, Miralen Pjanic, Rey Manaj, and many are on the cards. More importantly, a couple of incomings are still an option. There are, and will be, players offered at the last minute, and the club might sign a forward, and a midfielder like Koeman wants.
