This upcoming Wednesday, FC Barcelona will go up against Real Sociedad, in the Semi-Final of the Spanish Super Copa. The Blaugranas will be looking to keep their form up, with a recent run of successful results boosting their confidence. On the other hand, after a successful start to the season, Real Sociedad has been in decline. They are now out of the top 4 in La Liga. Moreover, they only won one game in the last ten they have played. Therefore going into this match, Barcelona are the favourites. After a recent success in results, Koeman will be looking to keep this progress up,. We all remember that Barcelona had an inconsistent start to the season.
With players such as Lionel Messi, Antoine Greizmann and Pedri playing extremely well, Barcelona are flying high. They are looking in fine form heading into this match. In the last game, Messi managed to score twice, as well as Antoine Griezmann; taking their unbeaten run to eight matches now. Their last season however, ended up in disappointment. Their attempt to win the Super Cup was cut short by Atletico de Madrid. This was to be the last match for then manager, Ernesto Valverde, who had been sacked after this poor run of form.
A look at the opponent
Real Sociedad are also looking prepared for this match. After recent injuries with both David Silva and Mikel Oyarzbal provided a scare for this club. It stopped their recent run of form. However, they will be back for this game. As for other players such as Illarramendi and Robin Le Normand, these can be now reintroduced to the starting 11. Both players missed Real Sociedad’s previous match against Sevilla.
The winner of this game, will then face the winner of Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao. Other semi final will take place this coming Thursday.
