May 1

1904 – Barcelona travel abroad for the first time to play Olympique of Toulouse. Steinberg, Lassaleta and Forns score in a 3-2 win.

1920 – Nicolae Simatoc is born. Furthermore, he made 34 Liga appearances for the club from 1950-52, scoring 2 goals.

1952 – Juan Carlos Heredia is born. Furthermore, he made 74 Liga appearances for the club from 1974-79, scoring 17 goals.

1957 – Eulogio Martinez scores seven goals in Barça’ss 8-1 win over Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Generalisimo.

1958 – Barcelona beat London XI 6-0 at home in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup to win the Cup 8-2 on aggregate  

1974 – Barcelona return to Casablanca for a friendly against the Moroccan team W.A.C., which they win 0-3.

1981 – Alexander Hleb is born. Made 19 Liga appearances for the club from 2008-12

1983 – Osasuna beat Barcelona 1-0 in the final game of the season, as Barça finish fourth behind the two Madrid clubs and champions Athletic Club.

1989 – In his first game with the first team, a friendly v Banyoles, Pep Guardiola is half-time subbed for Tito Vilanova. Barcelona won the game 6-2.

1991 – 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Desafio Total Canal+ friendly cup. RM scorers: Butragueno (16), Hierro (17), Villarroya (18). Barça scorer: Goikoetxea (38)

2002 – Barcelona are unable to turn around first leg defeat as they are knocked out of the CL SF by Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate.

2005 – Messi becomes the youngest ever scorer for Barça with his first goal for the senior team in a 2-0 win over Albacete.

2010 – Lionel Messi equals Patrick Kluivert’s 122 goals as the tenth leading scorer in Barça history in Barcelona’s 4-1 victory away at Villarreal.

2019 – Leo Messi scores his 600th goal for FC Barcelona in their 3-0 home win over Liverpool.

May 2

1920 – Barça wins its fourth Copa del Rey with a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao at El Molinon. Goals from Martinez 70’ Alcantara 80’.

1935 – Luis Suarez Miramontes (‘Luisito’) is born. Moreover, he made 122 Liga appearances for the club from 1955-61, scoring 61 goals.

1954 – Holders Barça defeat Deportivo la Coruna 4-0 at home in the Copa 1/8 final.

1993 – Ronald Koeman scores a penalty as Barcelona beat Espanyol 1-0 away in La Liga.

2000 – Valencia thrash Barça 4-1 in the Champions League semi-final first leg with two goals from Valencia’s Miguel Angel Angulo and a penalty from Gaizka Mendieta in the first half were followed by a second half injury-time wonder-strike from Claudio Lopez

2004 – Barça beat RCD Espanyol 4-1 at home in La Liga. Ronaldinho, Saviola (2) and van Bronckhorst the scorers.

2009 – FC Barcelona inflict Real Madrid’s biggest home defeat since the 1950s with a 6-2 demolition.

2012 – Lionel Messi beats Gerd Muller’s 72-73 season record of 68 goals with a hat-trick against Malaga in a 4-1 win. Lionel Messi’s 45 La Liga goals this season are the most by any player in Europe’s top 5 leagues in 80 years – Dixie Dean 45 in 1931/1932. Outgoing coach Pep Guardiola is given several ovations.

2015 – Barcelona make it 14 goals in two games with a 8-0 win away at Cordoba. Rakitic, Suarez (3), Messi (2), Pique and Neymar scorers. Equals biggest away win.

May 3

1919 – Florencio Caffaratti is born. Moreover, he made 15 Liga appearances for the club from 1947-49, scoring 7 goals.

1925 – The Copa del Rey semi final tie break game ends in a 2-1 win for Barça against Athletic Madrid.

1942 – Barça overturn a 2-1 deficit with a 4-0 win at home over Tarrasa CF in the Copa del Rey. 

1951 – Barça register a 3-0 win over Sevilla at home to go through to Copa quarterfinals 5-1 on aggregate.

1953 – Barcelona win 3-2 at home to Athletic Bilbao, finishing the season as back-to-back champions.

1970 – Barcelona are beaten 2-1 away at Espanyol.

1973 – Michael Reiziger is born. Moreover, he made 173 Liga appearances for the club from 1997-2004.

1987 – Barça are held to a 0-0 draw away to Espanyol in La Liga.

2006 – After nearest rivals Valencia lose, Barça become the first team to successfully defend the title since they won back-to-back titles under van Gaal.

2011 – Real Madrid are beaten 3-1 on aggregate, 1-1 on the night at the Camp Nou, in the Champions League semi-final.

May 4

1952 – Cup holders Barça win 6-1 at home to Malaga, Cesar and Basora among the scorers, to go through 13-1 on aggregate in the Copa del Generalisimo. They will go on to face either Real Sociedad or Valladolid in the semi-final, who draw 1-1 and will go to a tiebreak game.

1958 – Barça beat Granada CF 4-1 at home and end the season in third place. Basora (2), Martinez and Suarez the scorers.

1960 – After drawing the first leg 0-0, Barça win the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup at the Camp Nou with a 4-1 win over Birmingham City. Goals by Eulogio Martinez, Zoltan Czibor (2) and Luis Coll.

1972 – Josep Samitier dies

1987 – Cesc is born. Moreover, he made 96 Liga appearances for the club from 2011-14, scoring 28 goals.

1988 – Johan Cruyff signs a contract to return to the Camp Nou, this time as manager.

2003 – Barcelona win 4-1 in the Copa Catalunya Cadete Cup final against Espanyol.  Copa Catalunya Cadete Cup final also known as the ‘partido de la mascara’. Messi scores two, Pique makes it 3-0 before being sent off along with the Espanyol coach. So ends a season when Barça won every trophy, remaining unbeaten and Messi scored 40 goals. It is also Cesc’s last game with Messi and Pique until the Supercopa seven years later.

2008 – Barça beat Valencia 6-0 at home in La Liga with goals from Messi, Xavi, Henry (2) and Bojan (2).

May 5

1912 – Barcelona win the Pyrenees Cup in Toulouse with a 5-3 win over Stade Bordelais. Morales (3), Massana, and Rodriguez with the goals.

1963 – 1-0 defeat to Real Murcia in Copa del G second leg 1/16 final away.

1976 – Juan Pablo Sorin is born. Moreover, he made 15 Liga appearances for the club in 2003, scoring 1 goal.

1979 – FC Barcelona record a 2-1 win over RCD Espanyol at home in La Liga. Asensi and Sanchez the scorers.

1984 – Second consecutive Copa final ends in defeat and shame for Maradona. With arguments ongoing between Menotti and Clemente and Maradona again facing Goikotxea. Bilbao won 1-0 but Maradona launched himself at Athletic player Miguel Sola and a free-for-all ensued involving both sets of players while king waited to give out cup. The game and its aftermath effectively sealed Maradona’s fate as a Barça player and he was sold soon after.

1997 – Extremadura 1-3 Barcelona (Ronaldo 10, Lucho 33, 80). Extremadura not conceded in 841 mins before Ronaldo’s 31st of season (as many as Extremadura have scored all season). Lucho’s second is his fifteenth of the season.

2001 – El derbi barceloni ends in a 0-0 away draw for Barcelona

2002 – Catalunya are beaten 3-1 in a World Cup warm up game by the Brazilian side that went on to win the competition.

2002 – Barça defeat Espanyol 2-0 in La Liga. Kluivert and Xavi with the goals.

2012 – Josep Guardiola coaches his final home game at the Camp Nou, the Catalan derby versus Espanyol, a 4-0 win. Messi is the first player ever in the history of the Liga to score 8 hat-tricks in one league. Sandro Rosell awards the Club’s highest honour Insignia d’or i brillants to Pep Guardiola in the presence of his father, Valenti. 

May 6

1923 – Former Barcelona player (1942-57) and coach (1969) Josep Seguer is born.

1928 – Barça beat CD Alaves 3-0 at home in the Copa del Rey semifinal first leg.

1939 – Following the Civil War, the Franco regime orders the creation of another management committee to take charge of the club. Dr. Joan Soler agrees to head the committee and become the first post-war president.

1976 – Iván de la Peña is bor. Made 81 Liga appearances for the club from 1995-98, scoring 11 goals.

1978 – The first club elections of the new democratic period are held. 

1983 – Dani Alves is born. Moreover, he made 247 Liga appearances for the club from 2008-16, scoring 14 goals.

1990 – Barça are beaten 2-0 away to Real Zaragoza and end the season in third place behind Real Madrid and Valencia.

2006 – Barcelona beat RCD Espanyol 2-0 at home in La Liga with goals from Ronaldinho and Jarque (OG).

2009 – Andres Iniesta scores a vital away goal to send Barcelona through to the Champions League final after a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

2015 – two years after the 7-0, Barcelona defeat Bayern Munich 3-0 at Camp Nou with goals from Messi (2) and Neymar.

2018 – Barcelona maintain their record unbeaten run with a 2-2 draw at home to Real Madrid.

May 7

1916 – Barça’s Camp de la Industria is host to the Copa del Rey final. Athletic Bilbao beat Real Madrid 4-0 with a Zubizarreta hat-trick.

1947 – Former Barcelona player (1972-79) and coach (2003) Antonio de la Cruz is born.

1978 – Barça win 1-0 at home to Valencia but end the season second behind Real Madrid. Bio the scorer.

1986 – Barça lose on penalties to Steaua Bucharest in the European Cup final after a 0-0 draw. 

1994 – Guillermo Amor scores the only goal of the game at the Bernabeu to ensure Barça a Liga double over Real Madrid without conceding a goal.

2008 – Barcelona form a guard of honour for champions Real Madrid before suffering a 4-1 defeat at the Bernabeu. 

2014 – Joan Lacueva, critical to the signing of a young Lionel Messi, dies.

May 8

1970 – Luis Enrique was born . Former Barcelona player (1996-2004) and coach (2014-17) Luis Enrique.

1977 – Barça beat RCD Espanyol 4-2 at home in La Liga with goals from Clares (2) and Asensi (2).

2008 – President Joan Laporta announces Frank Rijkaard and assistant Johan Neeskens are to leave the club at the end of the season.

2010 – Barcelona beat Sevilla 3-2 away in La Liga, a win that effectively hands them the title.

2011 – Goals from Iniesta and Pique give Barça a 2-0 win over Espanyol at home in La Liga.

2016 – Barcelona move within one win away from Liga title with a 5-0 home win over Espanyol. 

May 9

1926 – Champions Barça beat Real Union de Irun 2-1 in Zaragoza to go through to its second Copa del Rey final in two seasons. Samitier and Alcantara the scorers.

1929 – Sastre scores late in the game to give Barça their first Clasico Liga win, 1-0 away at Chamartin.

1954 – Barça are defeated 3-0 away at Depor but go through to the Copa quarterfinals 4-3 on aggregate.

May 10

1925 – Barça wins its sixth Copa del Rey title with a 2-0 win over Arenas Club in Seville. Samitier and Sancho the scorers.

1942 – Barça win 2-1 away at Sevilla in the Copa del Generalisimo.

1973 – Rüştü Reçber is born. Moreover, he made 4 Liga appearances for the club from 2003-06.

1989 –  Goals from Salinas and Lopez Rekarte led FC Barcelona to a 2-0 victory against Sampdoria to win the third Cup Winners Cup

1997 – Ronaldo scores the only goal of the game in the 47th minute against his future club as Barça beat Madrid 1-0 at home. Roberto Carlos injures both Nadal and Giovani in first 20 minutes – setting the tempo (or lack thereof) for the rest of the game. The 1-0 win means Madrid are ahead on the head-to-head goal difference after their earlier 2-0 win over Barça.  

May 11

1952 – Cup holders Barça defeat Valladolid 5-0 at home in the Copa del Rey semifinal first leg.

1974 – Despite losing their final game 1-0 away at Las Palmas, Barça win the league, ending a trophy drought since 1960.

1975 – FC Barcelona register a 0-0 draw with Real Madrid at Camp Nou.

1980 – 3-1 win over RCD Espanyol at home in La Liga with goals from Simonsen, Asensi, and Ramirez. 

1984 – Andres Iniesta is born. Moreover, he made 442 Liga appearances for the club from 2002-18, scoring 35 goals.

1985 – Barça are held to a 2-2 draw at home by Real Madrid in the League Cup semi-final first leg  

1986 – Clos and Alexanco score as Barcelona draw 2-2 with Real Madrid in the Copa del La Liga.

1989 – Giovani dos Santos is born. Moreover, he made 28 Liga appearances for the club from 2007-08, scoring 3 goals.

2002 – Real Zaragoza draw 1-1 with Barça as the club finish fourth in the league.

2003 – FC Barcelona Bàsquet win their first EuroLeague title, defeating Benetton Treviso 76–65 in front of a packed Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona

2011 – Barcelona are crowned champions of La Liga after a 1-1 draw with Levante.

2013 – After Real Madrid fail to beat Espanyol, Barcelona are crowned champions for the fourth time in five seasons.

May 12

1957 – Barça draw 2-2 away at Real Madrid in the CdG Quarter Final first leg. Basora and Kubala and di Stefano the scorers.

1982 – Barça beat Standard Liege 2-1 at Camp Nou to win their second European Cup Winners Cup

1997 – Barcelona team flight to Rotterdam for Cup Winners Cup final is delayed by four hours after a bomb scare that turned out to be a hoax.

2015 – Barcelona go through to a fourth Champions League final in ten years 5-3 on aggregate (3-2 on night) against Bayern Munich

May 13

1902 – The first ever encounter between Barcelona and Real Madrid was played on this day, Barcelona won 3-1 in the Copa de la Coronacion, a competition in honour of the coronation of Alfonso XIII

1906 – Barça defeat Real Madrid 5-2 in a friendly game with goals from Wallace (2), Pons (2) and Forns.

1928 – Barça win 5-0 over CD Alaves in the Copa del Rey semifinal second leg to go through 8-0 on aggregate.

1945 – Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao 5-2 at home in La Liga with goals from Escola (2), Bravo, Gonzalvo III and Cesar.

1951 – Barcelona are held 0-0 at home by Athletic Bilbao in the Copa semifinal first leg.

1978 – Victor Sagi pulls out of the election race amid rumours Núñez had accumulated a dossier on his private life and business dealings

1983 – Yaya Toure is born. Moreover, he made 74 Liga appearances for the club from 2007-10, scoring 4 goals.

2000 – Josep Lluis Nunez announces he is leaving his post as president of FC Barcelona.

2009 – Barça beat Athletic Bilbao 4-1 to win their 25th Copa del Rey title with goals from Yaya Toure, Lionel Messi, Bojan and Xavi. 

2018 – Barcelona concede five for the first time since 2003 as they fall to Levante 5-4, losing their unbeaten status.

May 14

1922 – Barcelona win 5-1 over Real Union in the Copa del Rey final in Vigo to win their fifth Copa title. 

1972 – Losing the final game of the season 1-0 to Malaga, Barça end the season in third place behind Real Madrid and Valencia.

1994 – Miroslav Djukic misses a last minute penalty for Deportivo against Valencia that would have won them the title. Instead, the game ended in 0-0 draw and Barça being crowned champions for the fourth time in a row. Barça beat Sevilla 5-2 at home.

1997 – A 37th minute penalty by Ronaldo sees Barça beat PSG 1-0 and the club win its fourth European Cup Winners Cup. Record-breaking fourteenth European final and equal Madrid’s then-record of eight European trophies. Bobby Robson is the first Barça coach since  the1950s to reach the last month of season with a chance of completing a treble. 

2005 – After a 1-1 draw at Levante, Barça win their first Liga of the new century and the first in five seasons. Goal from Eto’o 

2016 – Barcelona secure La Liga with a 3-0 away win at Granada, their sixth of the last eight league titles.

May 15

1902 – Barça are defeated 2-1 by Club Vizcaya in the Copa de la Coronacion final, the forerunner to the Copa del Rey.

1970 – Frank de Boer is born. Moreover, he made 144 Liga appearances for the club from 1999-2003, scoring 5 goals.

1970 – Ronald de Boer is born. Moreover, he made 37 Liga appearances for the club from 1999-2000, scoring 1 goal.

1991 – Barça are beaten 2-1 by Manchester United in the Cup Winners Cup final by two goals from Mark Hughes.

1996 – RCD Espanyol hold Barcelona to a 1-1 draw in La Liga. Figo the scorer.

1997 – Ousmane Dembele is born

1998 – Barça are beaten 4-1 at home by UD Salamanca but end the season as champions.

2011 – Barcelona celebrate winning the title after a 0-0 draw with Deportivo at Camp Nou.

May 16

1926 – Barça wins the Copa del Rey for the second successive year, the clubs seventh title, with a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid. 

1954 – Barça beat Athletic Bilbao 4-2 in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal first leg.

1976 – Sporting Gijon hold Barça to a 1-1 draw as Barcelona finish second in the league to Real Madrid.

1979 – Barça wins its first European Cup Winners Cup with a 4-3 AET win over Fortuna Dusseldorf.

2004 – Luis Enrique plays his final game for the club, starting against Racing Santander in a 1-0 win. He is substituted before the hour mark to an ovation from the Camp Nou crowd.

2009 – Barça secure their first Liga title since 2006 when Real Madrid lose 3-2 away to Villarreal.

2010 – 4-0 win over Real Valladolid sees Barça, with Real Madrid, set a record for most wins (31) in a Liga season as Barça claim their 20th league title.

May 17

1942 – Barca win 3-0 at home to Sevilla in the Copa del Generalisimo 1/8 final second leg.

1953 – In a replay of last years final, holders Barça defeat Valencia 5-0 at home in the Copa del Generalisimo in the 1/8 finals. Kubala 2, Moreno, Basora, Manchon with the goals.

1959 – Barcelona 6-0 Real Gijon, Copa del Generalisimo, Round of 16 second leg.

2002 – Laszlo Kubala dies

2006 – FC Barcelona wins its second Champions League title with a 2-1 win over Arsenal in Paris.

2014 – Barcelona go into the last game of the season versus Atleti needing to win, but can only draw 1-1, finishing second in the league.

2015 – Lionel Messi scores the only goal of the game as Barcelona defeat Atletico Madrid to clinch their 23rd Liga title.

May 18

1933 – Alejandro Morera Soto marks his debut with a brace against Tenerife in Barça’s 3-1 win.

1946 – Hugo Sotil is born. Moreover, he made 65 Liga appearances for the club from 1973-77, scoring 21 goals.

1952 – Cup holders Barca are defeated 3-1 by Valladolid but go through to the Copa final 6-3 on aggregate.

1971 – Goran Vucevic is born. Moreover, he made 2 Liga appearances for the club from 1992-97.

1980 – Almeria hold Barcelona to a 1-1 draw away as Barcelona finish the season in fourth place.

1994 – Barcelona are defeated 4-0 in the European Cup final by AC Milan.

1996 – Johan Cruyff is sacked following press reports of VP Joan Gaspart meeting with potential replacements and a confrontation with President Núñez . With a game the next day versus Cuela, Cruyff’s assistant manager, Carles Rexach takes over training. Jordi fails to turn up. Parties eventually agree that Jordi start the next game but be subbed before the end.

2008 – Barça beat Real Murcia 3-5 away but end the season in third place. Eto’o, Henry and dos Santos (3) the scorers.

May 19

1929 – Jordi Vila Soler is born. Played for the club from 1951-54.

1956 – Jose Ramon Alexanko is born. Moreover, he made 274 Liga appearances for the club from 1980-93, scoring 26 goals.

1957 – Barça beat Real Madrid 6-1 at home in the CdG QF second leg (8-3 aggregate). Martinez (4, 48, 50, 63), Kubala(35), Villaverde (79) the scorers.

1963 – 4-1 win over Elche CF in 1/8 final Copa del G second leg. 5-5 on aggregate. Tie will go to a tie break.

1996 – Jordi Cruyff recieves a standing ovation after helping Barça come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in his final game for the club against Celta Vigo.

1997 – Celta 1-3 Barcelona (Oscar 29, 39, Ronaldo 64). Barça win third Galician away game of season. Two Oscar golazos all but guarantee second place and Champions League next season. Ronaldo scores in his 9th concescutive league game and overtakes Mariano Martin’s 1942/43 total to become Barcelona’s top scorer in a season with 33 goals. Josep Lluis Nunez’s 700th game as president.

2000 – Defending champions Barça are held to a 2-2 home draw against Celta Vigo and end the season in second place.

2013 – Victor Valdes becomes the fourth player to make 500 appearances for the club in Barcelona’s 2-1 defeat of Valladolid.

May 20

1918 – Goals from Alcantara and Martinez see Barça beat Real Madrid 2-1 away at Campo de O’Donnell.

1922 – The new Les Corts ground is inaugurated. With an initial capacity of 20,000 (later to become 60,000) it was Barça’s home until 1957.

1928 – The Copa del Rey final ends 1-1 after extra time against Real Sociedad in Santander after Mariscal cancels out Samitier’s 53rd minute strike. Game will go to a replay.

1929 – The second ever World’s Fair (also 1929 Barcelona Universal Exposition, or Expo 1929, in Catalan: Exposició Internacional de Barcelona de 1929) to take place in Barcelona begins today,running until 15 January the following year.

1945 – Sevilla hold Barcelona to a 0-0 draw but Barça end the season as Liga champions.

1951 – Barça defeat Athletic Bilbao 2-1 away to go through to the Copa final against Real Sociedad.

1973 – Drawing the final game of the season 1-1 with Real Zaragoza, Barça finish the season in second place, two points behind Atletico Madrid.

1992 – Barça win the European Cup for the first time, with a 1-0 win against Sampdoria at Wembley stadium.

1997 – FC Barcelona are basketball champions of Spain after beating Real Madrid in decisive play off game in Madrid. Objects immediately rain down on the players as they celebrate Barça’s 10th title.

2000 – Louis van Gaal leaves the club. “Amigos de la prensa. Yo me voy. Felicidades.” “What has Barcelona won in 100 years? How many Champions Leagues? In six years at Ajax I won more than Barcelona had won in 100 years.“.

2006 – Despite losing the final game 3-1 to Bilbao, Barça finish the season as champions, 12 points ahead of second placed Real Madrid. Eto’o wins the Pichichi with 26 goals, Ronaldinho third with 17.

2007 – Barça go away to Atletico de Madrid and win 6-0 with goals from Messi (2), Zambrotta, Eto’o, Ronaldinho and Iniesta. 

May 21

1963 – Juli Marial i Mundet dies

1969 – Barça play in their first European Cup Winners Cup final but lose 3-2 to Slovan Bratislava in Basel. 

2011 – Marc Bartra scores his first goal for Barça helping the side come from behind to win it 3-1 at Malaga CF.

2011 – With the end of season, Barcelona set a new record for the most away points, wins and goals scored (49) in a Liga season (14 wins, 4 draws and one defeat in la Liga 2010/11). It is also the first team to score in all away games in a league season.

2014 – FC Barcelona presents Luis Enrique to the press as the new coach.

2014 – Barcelona win the Catalan Cup after beating Espanyol in a penalty shootout.

2017 – Barcelona are beaten to the La Liga title on the final day of the season by Real Madrid despite defeating Eibar 4-2.

1903 – Cristobal Marti is born. Moreover, he made 54 Liga appearances for the club from 1923-25 and 1928-33, scoring 2 goals.

1928 – The Copa del Rey final replay against Real Sociedad again ends 1-1 after extra time, this time Barça the team that equalises (Piera 69). The game will go to another replay.  

1966 – Jesus Angoy is born. Moreover, he made 9 Liga appearances for the club from 1990-96.

1977 – Barça beat Real Betis 3-1 at home but end the season in second place to Atletico Madrid. Clares and Botella (2) the scorers.  

1987 – Arturo Vidal is born

1988 – Barça are held to a 1-1 draw away at Osasuna and end the season in sixth place. Carrasco the scorer from a penalty.

1999 – Barcelona clinch the La Liga title in their centenary year with a 4-1 win at Alaves.

2014 – Marc Andre ter Stegen signs for the club from Borussia.  

2016 – Barcelona complete a domestic double, winning the Copa 2-0 AET against Sevilla.  

May 23

1948 – Barça win in the Torneo Historicos first leg meeting between Real Madrid and Barça at Les Corts with goal from Amores (37).

1954 – Barcelona are held 1-1 by Athletic Bilbao but go through to the Copa semifinals 5-3 on aggregate.

1972 – Lluis Bru dies

1975 – Francesc Arnau is born. Moreover, he made 24 Liga appearances for the club from 1996-2001.

1987 – Gary Lineker scores in another Clasico to put Barça ahead at half time in the Camp Nou. Hugo Sanchez equalizes for Madrid before Roberto scores the winner with a penalty on the hour mark.

2004 – Real Zaragoza beat Barça 2-1 as Barcelona finish second in the league to Valencia. Saviola the scorer for Barça.  

2005 – Sigfrid Gracia dies

2009 – Marc Muniesa makes his Barça senior debut aged 17 years and 57 days as a substitute in a 1-0 loss to Osasuna. Barça’s second youngest player, he was sent off minutes later. 

2015 – Barcelona celebrate the Liga win and Xavi’s last Liga game after a 2-2 draw with Deportivo la Coruna. Messi with both goals.  

May 24

1942 – Barça beat Espanyol 3-2 away in the Copa del Generalisimo quarterfinal. Goals: Martin, Valle and Fabregas (og).

1952 – Holders BBarça draw 1-1 away at Valencia but go through to the quarterfinal 6-1 on aggregate.

1959 – Kocsis scores four as Barça beat Real Betis 6-0 away in the Copa del Generalisimo Quarterfinal first leg. Martinez and Segarra other scorers.

1972 – Glasgow Rangers play Dynamo Moscow in the Cup Winners Cup final at the Camp Nou. The event is marred by the threat of violence before, during, and after. Drunken Scots fight riot police at the stadium.

1984 – Terry Venables takes over as coach of the club. During his three seasons in Catalonia, Venables led the club to the Spanish league title in 1985 (their first since 1974), and the Copa de la Liga in 1986.

1992 – Barça beat Real Valladolid 6-0 away in La Liga with goals from Stoichkov (2), Nadal (2) and Koeman (2).  

1997 – Ronaldo scores his last goal of the season in the last minute of his last game in Barça colours in Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Deportivo. His shirt did not have the club badge on first half and the fans booed him for his individualism.

2001 – Legendary Barça ‘keeper Urruti dies in a car accident aged 48

May 25

1918 – Horacio Casarin is born. Played for the club from 1948-50.

1924 – István Nyers is born. Played for the club from 1956-57.

1947 – Lluís Pujol is born. Moreover, he made 63 Liga appearances for the club from 1965-73, scoring 13 goals.

1952 – Valencia’s Badenes scores after 17 seconds but the Copa final ends 4-2 to Barça after extra time, the clubs second consecutive title.  

1966 – Rife 2, Fuste 2, and Zaballa score as Barcelona defeat Chelsea 5-0 in the Fairs Cup.

1975 – Barça beat Athletic Bilbao 4-0 and finish the season in third place behind Real Madrid and Real Zaragoza.  

2012 – Barça win their 26th Copa del Rey title with a 3-0 win over Athletic Club at Vicente Calderon in Pep’s final game as Barcelona coach.  

May 26

1973 – After a damning Roca Investigation, the Spanish Football Federation lift ban on foreign players, allowing two per team. Barça go on to sign Hugo Sotil and, eventually, Johan Cruyff.

1996 – Barça finishes a 2-2 draw away at Deportivo and end the season in third place.

2007 – Ronaldinho scores the winner in Barça’s 1-0 win over Getafe but is later sent off for kicking an opponent.  

2013 – Goals from Alexis and Pedro see Barcelona win 2-0 over Espanyol in the derbi.  

May 27

1928 – Barça draw 2-2 with Real Madrid in the Torneo de Campeones first leg. Goals: Ramon (6), Arocha (58).

1951 – Barça win the Spanish Cup final with a 3-0 win over Real Sociedad, the first title of the Kubala era and the 10th Copa victory. Goals from Cesar (2) and Gonzalvo III. / Kubala leads Barça to a 3-0 win over Sociedad in the Generalissimo final at the Bernabeu. Players wear black armbands mourning the recent death of former player Emilio Sagi-Barba.  

1992 – Jeison Murillo born. Moreover, he made 2 Liga appearances for the club in 2019.

1995 – Miguel Angel Nadal scores the only goal at the Camp Nou as Barça beat Real Madrid 1-0.  

1996 – It is announced that Real Madrid player Luis Enrique will join FC Barcelona.

2009 – Goals from Eto’o and Messi secure Barcelona’s third Champions League title against Manchester United in Rome.   

May 28

2005 – Barça are held to a 0-0 draw away to Real Sociedad but end the season as champions.  

2011 – Barça lift the European Cup for the fourth time with a 3-1 win over Manchester United.  

May 29

2013 – Barcelona win the Copa Catalunya on penalties after a 1-1 draw against Espanyol in Lleida.

2017 – FC Barcelona announce former Athletic Club coach Ernesto Valverde is the new first team coach.  

May 30

1910 – Former Barcelona coach (1950-54) Ferdinand Daucík.

1948 – Barça win 1-0 against Real Madrid away at Nuevo Chamartin in the Torneo Historicos. Amoros (49) again the scorer.

1982 – Barça are beaten 1-0 in the Presidente de Venezuela Cup 3rd place playoff by Real Madrid at Farid Richa. Del Bosque the scorer.

2009 – Barça draw 1-1 away at Deportivo but end the season in first place in La Liga. Eto’o the scorer. 

2013 – Eric Abidal reveals he is leaving the club after six trophy-laden seasons, having joined in the summer of 2007 and being promised a new contract after beating cancer. 

2015 – Barcelona complete a domestic double. Therefore winning the Copa del Rey with a 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao in Xavi’s final Camp Nou game.  

May 31

1942 – Barça again beat Espanyol 3-2 in the Copa del Generalisimo quarterfinal to go through 6-4 on aggregate.

1943 – Ramon Montesinos is born. Mostly renowned for his strength, Montesinos made a total 75 appearances and scored five goals after joining the first team in 1963. His single career honour came at Barça in the 1965-66 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup win.

1953 – Holders Barcelona lose 1-0 to Real Santander in the Copa quarterfinal first leg.

1959 – Barcelona beat Real Betis 4-3 at home in the Copa del Generalisimo quarterfinal second leg to go through to the semifinal 10-3 on aggregate.

1961 – Barça lost 3-2 to Benfica (without Eusebio) in the European Cup final. Therefore, Kubala would go on to call it the saddest day of his life.  

1973 – Beaten by Sevilla 3-1 in first leg of Copa. Several players order two bottles of Cava. Coach Michels delivers them, berates them for unprofessionalism and throws the bottles to the floor.

1987 – Urruti makes his final appearance for Barça, replacing injured Zubi, in Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Mallorca  

1992 – Barça beat Espanyol 4-0 away in La Liga. Morover, goals from Koeman, Begiristain, Eusebio and Ferrer.  

2008 – Gianluca Zambrotta leaves the club after two seasons on a free transfer to Milan.

2017 – FC Barcelona presents Ernesto Valverde as the new coach.
